So, ask yourself... There’s a number of questions you’ll need to ask yourself. Among them could be:  Do you want to continue studying?  Are you looking forward to moving out and gaining your independence?


if it is a university town with a number of institutions. As an apprentice you might meet people who are at


different stages of their life or career path and will work and, most likely, socialise with them. This in itself can prove quite valuable and bring with it awareness and empathy, providing a ‘soft skills’ advantage to someone who has entered the workplace after leaving college.


 Do you want to start earning some money? Would you prefer to start work debt-free or...  …have a university degree in your chosen subject before you pursue a career?


 Do you want to broaden your social circle?  Do you want to travel or take time out? (And can you afford it?)


 Are you well suited to intense academic study or... …would you benefit from a combination of tuition and learning on the job?


Big questions...


A good exercise to help you decide what to do next is to simply sit down and start writing. Below you’ll find a few suggested types of chart or plan. Not only are they great practice for CV writing and the application process, but should bring some insights into likes, dislikes, priorities and goals, and it might even be fun, or at the very least bring a help bring about some progress! There are of course apps for planning... you could simply do this on your phone or laptop. Or you might do just as well to clear a space and grab some coloured markers and paper and the


help of a parent. Either way: first off, make a list of your goals as well as accomplishments, even if you haven't yet decided on a subject to study or a job you aspire to. It doesn't matter. For starters, why not just kick off with a list, for example jot down your:  Academic and personal strengths and weaknesses


 Extracurricular activities – recreational or sporting – work and volunteer work  Awards  Social life and friendships  Ambitions – both short and
