ARE YOU EXCITED?

Well, it should be a thrilling time being right where you are now... on the verge of some major future decisions, that momentous “what next?” point! However it can also be incredibly daunting...

That’s why we bring you Options. This guide is intended to focus on two main areas: taking the step into further and higher education (going on to study for a degree or equivalent qualification) and moving into the world of work (getting a job but doing so within the supportive framework of apprenticeships). Whatever your next step, it’s crucial to understand that one path is not better than another; Options is here to help guide you towards the decisions that are in your best interests.

As well as an overview of both the apprenticeship model and a look at what universities have to offer, there is also an in-depth look at how financial factors can play a considerable part. The typical costs of university can be weighed against the earning power of a graduate. Apprenticeships, on the other hand, come with their own ‘earn while you learn’ benefits, since the apprentice is paid from day one. It’s a matter of finding out what is going to suit you.

The application process for both pathways is explained, with lots of helpful advice and expert tips from both employers and college and university staff – people who see dozens of candidates come through their doors, sometimes on a daily basis.

Another common concern is how to thrive in your new environtment – all covered in our general wellbeing and mental health section.

Don’t forget, more invaluable advice, information and guidance, as well as details of apprenticeships, courses and live events, can be found at whatlive.co.uk. l
