Women in Franchising Juliette Ryley

Juliette Ryley is 39 and lives with her husband, Ben, and four children. She operates her ActionCOACH franchise in Warwickshire.

How did you find out about the ActionCOACH opportunity? I was looking to go into coaching and met another franchise partner at a local networking event and the rest is history.

Describe the process for getting on board – how long did it take? It all started with a phone conversation. I spoke to ActionCOACH UK’s franchise recruitment director, Julie Wagstaff. I then went to a discovery day run by the other UK co-founder, Ian Christelow. It was clear that I could do more by joining the franchise than by starting from scratch on my own, so I went into the due diligence phase and I was booked onto my initial training week after just three months.

What attracted you to this franchise opportunity? Firstly, the UK support team and their calendar of over 70 support days is world class, but then you add on the help from over 180 franchise partners in the UK and I felt extremely comfortable in my decision. Secondly, ActionCOACH’s system is outstanding, with over 3,500 strategies and tactics guaranteed to make businesses successful, including your own. Finally, the earning potential is good, with some franchise partners banking over £1million a year.

What was the initial training and support like?

The training was very intense but also an amazing experience. I learnt so much about myself – it was a massive eye opener.

What ongoing training and support is available? There is a multitude of training available to tap into from both the global and UK support teams. They broadcast at least three live webinars every week on various

ActionCOACH

topics, which are recorded so you can play them back whenever you want.

How was trading in the beginning and how is business today? It was hard to start with as, like with starting any business, you’re doing something completely new. But if you follow the system and take up all the help and support, it becomes very lucrative.

Any standout moments so far? Recently reaching the financial goal I set for myself when I first created my business plan was something to celebrate. But seeing my clients’ wins every week is by far the best thing about being an Action Coach.

How have you found being a woman running her own business? Running a business in heels is always going to have its challenges. The business world is very male orientated and many industries are competitive. I think many women don’t reach their full potential due to interference, whether that’s by corporate challenges or home-life expectations. Being organised is key and I learnt this in the early days. Be proud of yourself and stop worrying

what other people think, as it’s none of their business. You are good enough!

What are your plans for the future? I plan to develop my business into a coaching firm, employing a team of coaches who will change the face of business ownership in Warwickshire. I want to play a part in helping local businesses escape today’s failure rates of four in five businesses not making it past five years of operation.

I would also like to become a coach’s coach – every new franchise partner is given their own coach for free until they reach a good level of income. This is another fantastic level of support, which I benefited from in the early days, and I’d love to give back by helping new franchise partners.

Would you recommend ActionCOACH to others, and to women in particular? Joining ActionCOACH is 100 per cent the best thing I‘ve done. It’s a fantastic community that helps each other continuously and I have made life-long friendships with other coaches and clients – both of which I expect to appeal to women looking at starting a business. I’m here for good now… they can’t get rid of me!
