Our Student Support team provides a wide range of accessible and confidential services to help you make the most of your time with us and help you succeed in your studies.


Academic development


Our Learning Development Tutors will help you refine and improve your study skills, organisation and time- management strategies. Our Academic Support Advisers offer guidance about personal issues and meeting coursework deadlines, progression on your course or refer you to other support services.


Disability and Inclusion


We are an inclusive university and welcome applications from everyone. If you have a physical or sensory disability, specific learning difficulty (e.g. dyslexia), mental health difficulty, autism or long-term medical condition our staff will offer you advice and guidance, including information about additional funding.


Advice and Wellbeing


We offer help and advice on practical issues such as finance, budgeting, childcare, housing and personal wellbeing concerns. We have dedicated support for care experienced students and can help students navigate complicated family situations when they arise. Our dedicated Mental Health Advisors can provide wide-ranging support to any student experiencing challenges with their emotional wellbeing. This support covers everything from situational difficulties to complex pre-existing diagnosed conditions, to emerging mental health concerns. The team offer informal-but-expert sessions with students and pride themselves on their approachability.

As well as our Student Support services you can also be part of our HEADs programmes. Headstart is a free short course that will help prepare you for university level study. It is open to all Level 4 students and runs before the start of Welcome Week and the start of your programme. The course has online and on-campus elements that allow you to engage flexibly. We can also support you with our HEADsup+ programme if you are joining Birmingham Newman for Level 6 study.
