Hastings Craft Weekend, which is taking place at The Observer Building 19th-21st June. I’ve started planning and prepping this year’s teaching, a couple of private courses and a week’s workshop at Central Saint Martin’s later in the summer. It’s good to get ready early because the year always begins gently and then suddenly turns into a downhill sprint towards summer. I haven’t even started thinking about Royal Ascot hats yet.
What would we find on your work top and how do you like to leave things at the end of the day?
The worktops in my studio are usually piled high with books and magazines, a new hat lining to photograph, half-made fish leather flowers, my diary, and plenty of scraps of paper, one of which probably says “buy a new notebook and get organised.” I like to imagine I’ll leave it tidy for the next morning, but the truth is - more organised chaos! I guess that’s why I often end up working on the ironing board by the end of the day. It’s the one space I can rely on to be clear when creativity has taken over completely.
