The main points for achieving a couture-looking finish
Crinoline tube? Common misconception: do not add round crinoline tubing to the inside of the roll of a button. Why? The sinamay will be stiffer than the crinoline tube once stiffened. The tube will simply buckle under the weight of the stiffened straw. Block it correctly in the first place.
Head-fitting ribbons and creases in the roll of the block When you smooth out a crease in the head-fitting area, the head fitting will eventually weaken and may crack. It will never give you a smooth roll on the edge of a button. You must eliminate creases in the head-fitting roll at the blocking stage, or you will end up with a creased petersham.
Adding a wire to help the structure If you find that the edges and roll of your button are not sufficiently supported, a better solution is to insert a wire on the inside edge of the roll.
Remember For good blocking, we want precise pinning and well-stretched fabric – not poor or minimal pinning with folds, lumps and bumps left in the fabric. We can see all the pinning you did, and how it was done!
