Bedacht


25 years of people, passion and pride

Founded in 2001 by Maik Schulz and Ulrike Simon, Bedacht is a name synonymous with unique style and an eye for detail. The company has always had a very straightforward goal, to make beautiful hats that enhance the appearance of the wearer – and it’s been doing that now for 25 years.


From friendship to brand


2026 sees Bedacht celebrate a quarter of a century in business, no easy feat considering the challenges that life brings. A passion for quality and a belief in fine craftsmanship underlies Bedacht’s philosophy, but one senses that it is the people, and the firm friendship between the founders, that have really enabled Bedacht to weather the inevitable storms. Ulrike and Maik first met when they were working for the hat manufacturing company Heinrich Theodor Becker (H.T.B) where the pair formed a close friendship almost straight away. “At the time,

most innovative and fashionable hat company in Germany,” remembers Ulrike. “I’d already qualified as a milliner when I got my job there, and Maik was training with the company. He then left to start his own label, ‘Hutdesign Maik Schulz’ whilst I rose through the ranks at H.T.B and spent ten years as a manager, designing the collections and training the apprentices. Maik’s business did really well, and he had great success exhibiting and selling at trade fairs and fashion shows. We always stayed in touch, meeting regularly and enjoying each other’s company. Then Maik asked me if I’d be interested in launching a new hat brand with him.” With a solid friendship as a


starting point and complementary skills, Ulrike and Maik decided to go ahead. “Maik is incredibly creative,
