COCKS-GLIDDON .. , .

CONGRATULATIONS and celebrations were on the menu at Mitton Hall Country House Hotel as it played host to the wedding of Joanne Gliddon and Alan Cocks. The couple, of Cedar Street, Accrington, tied the knot in

front of family and friends at the hotel in Mitton, near Whal ley.

The bride wore a white ivory gown, ivith ruched bodice and

crystal detail. She carried a bouquet of white roses tied with blue and silver ribbon. Given away by her father, the bride is daughter of Mr and

Mrs David and Pam Gliddon, and the bridegroom's parents are Mr and Mrs Ashley and Christine Cocks, of Sabden. Bridesmaids Claire Horsfall and Susan Briggs wore ocean

blue 1950s-style chiffon knee-length dresses with diamante detail. They carried white rose and cornflower pories. The bridegroom, who is a wood machinist for P. Shipston

and Sons, and plays football for Sabden, chose David Bostock to be his best man. Both ceremony and reception took place at the hotel before

the bride, who provides contract support for Thomas Cook travel agents, and bridegroom jetted off on their honeymoon to Paris. Picture by Vantage Photography, Great Harwood.

It’s all a question of numbers

PRIME numbers was the topic chosen by Brian Pomfrett, the speaker at the Clitheroe and District Probus meeting. He delivered a most palatable talk on the theory, reality and mystery of prime numbers. A prime number is one that is not

' divisible by any other whole number apart from itself and 1. Just as music delights the ear, art the eye, so higher arith

metic or number theory pleases the brain. And judging by the applause and questions the collective brains of the Probus Club were mightily pleased. Member John Adey gave the vote of thanks, remarking

that he felt better armed to baffle any grandchildren who tried to trip him up mathematically speaking. The club meets on the first and third Fridays of the month,

at 1045 a.m. in the Pendle Club, Lowergate, Clitheroe. The next meeting is on May 2nd when Frank Duckett will talk about India and Kashmir.

A HONEYMOON “around the world” followed the wedding of Ken Hind and Sue Hall. Political leaders and civic dignitaries gathered at St

Michael’s Church, Whitewell, to celebrate the wedding bless ing ceremony, which was conducted by the Rev. Dr Paul Kirby. The bridegroom is a barrister with chambers in Preston, a

former MP for West Lancashire, borough councillor for the Longridge and Dilworth ward and chairman of Ribble Con servative Association. The bride, who wore an Edwardian-style gown made of

vintage Italian lace, is a teacher. She is also a Clitheroe Rotar- ian, a JP, former District Commissioner of Pendle and Craven Pony Club and Conservative council candidate in the Little- moor ward. Guests at the wedding included Ribble Valley MP Nigel

Evans, borough councillor John Hill, County Councillor Albert Atkinson, Coun. David Smith and many others from Rotary, politics and law. James Herriot’s son, author James Wight, proposed the

toast to the bride and bridegroom. The party rocked on into the small hours to the music of

Clitheroe band “The Backbeats”. The newlyweds’ honeymoon destinations included Hong

Kong, New Zealand, Tahiti and Los Angeles. Picture by Paul Deaville, Blackburn.
