Valley and beyond will be able to log on to the Internet on Saturday and enjoy listen ing to a whole mix of music, phone-in debates and interesting programmes appealing to both the young and old alike. The move has been made possible

thanks to the efforts of chairman Steve Suttie, a growing army of volunteers and a grant for £4,964 from the Lottery’s

Awards for All programme. Steve explained how this grant would sustain the ■ internet service for the next 12 months. He added this would offer the radio’s

loyal members and presenters an addition al platform to develop their skills, while the group waits for its application for a full-time community radio license to be approved. The radio has already been on the air

during two 28 day trials, but needs the go- ahead from OFCOM, the Government’s broadcast regulators, which is not opening another licensing window until the end of the summer, for the full-time license. “ I’m confident we’ll get a full-time FM

license by this time next year, when we’ll hopefully turn the transmitter on for a five year period,” Steve said. Ribble Valley Radio aims to offer oppor

tunities to anybody who is interested in getting involved in local radio, at the same time as promoting and benefiting local organisations and societies. The on-line broadcast begins at 8 a.m.

on Saturday. Log onto www.ribbleval- leyradio.org.uk to listen to your favourite presenters between 6 and 10 p.m. week days and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. during Satur day and Sunday. Anyone wishing to get involved in local radio should e-mail info@ribblevalleyra-

Varied stiles present some challenges!

MULTIPLE types of stile provided a challenge for 17 members of the Clitheroe Ramblers. Setting out from Gargrave, the group

headed north along the route of the Pen nine Way, leaving the surfaced track by a stone stepped stile to cross sodden fields over Eshton Moor. Although very wet underfoot, the walk

Link Telecom has wanted to move into Lancashire for many years and have taken the opportunity in Clitheroe to begin this process. Clitheroe is a community which values choice, something which we know we can provide, whilst maintaining a level o f . service we feel is a|so valued in the town. We were also looking for a town which had a feeling of pride within its community, Clitheroe certainly filled that aspect. As a company we have community partnerships with Bradford , Bulls and Bradford City with all our stores enjoying many tie up's with local sports and community clubs and projects and we will be looking to continue this practice in Clitheroe.

stile with an extra strong spring, before a short coffee break in the shelter of a wall. After crossing a number of wooden step stiles, the group reached the River Aire via a squeeze stile in a stone wall and followed this as far as Airton, where the route left the Pennine Way to turn east through Cal- ton. A couple of unusual wooden vertical

stiles and a number of very high ladder stiles characterised the next section of the route, which took the group towards IVin- terburn. On this section, lunch was eaten by a

small and pretty stream, but the line of the valley did not provide much protection from the wind. Just south of Winterburn, the route

turned south, initially following the road and then paths to cross Eshton Brook and Gamsbers Wood. The ramblers emerged from the wood

into the attractive parkland of Eshton Hall, where a lovely, antique metal ladder stile, complete with handrail, provided access from one field to the next. The final stretch of the walk followed the canal towpath back into Gargrave.
