Pupils prove they are top of the league
TWO teams from a Ribble Valley school have proved they are top of the league, after scoring high in the end-of-season results. The Year 9 netball team and the badminton team from
Clitheroe Royal Grammar School, have become the Hynd- burn and Ribble Valley District Champions, after beating tough competition from schools in the area. The girls from the netball team competed against eight schools and the winning team was made up of Chelsey Hob-
^ bins, Jenny Gatlow, Sarah Forrest, Charlotte Rowlandson, ■ Rachel Pietrzck, Kate Burrill, Gemma Huntoon and Felic ity Sourbutts. The doubles badminton competition featured 10 schools
and was won by Christina Carr and Louise Aspinall, with Louise also winning the singles competition.

selected them to play.” The boys come from various
locations around the country and are aged 14 and 15 . Meanwhile, a former Stony

with the match’s “MVP” acco lade for his performance on the pitch, scoring two tries over the RAF side. He was promoted to the Blues team recently and has been noted for his playing skills, particularly his slick handling and powerful running. Joe who graduated from
Stonyhurst last year with four Grade As in his A levels, now

everything he does, which is evi dent both on and off the field,” said Mr Jonathan Hewat, Stonyhurst’s Marketing and Admissions Manager.
New grass roots coaching award •
COACHES at grass roots football up and down the country are the subject of a new award, thanks to FA Learning.
Roots Coach of the Year prize has been introduced. And it is out to reward the unrecognised contribution
that coaches make at grass roots level around the UK. The winner of the award will be the FA’s chief guest at
at this years’ FA Community Shield, as well as winning coaching equipment worth over £5,000. They will also get the chance to take in an England
training session, alongside Head coach Sven Goran Eriksson. The winning coach will be decided on by a panel of big
names, including Sir Trevor Brooking, Sir (jeoff Hurst and England 'Women’s Coach Hope Powell. And Sir Geoff Hurst said: “Both myself and McDon
ald’s are delighted to be working with the FA in recog nising the tireless work grass roots coaches put in to local teams and communities. “Eric Harrison (McDonald’s Head Coach) and I have
toured the country over the last three years visiting local training sessions, to see at first hand the profe^ionalism and commitment of these great coaches.” Players, friends, parents and even fellow coaches can cast their vote at

Timeout’s new challenge
ROEFIELD Leisure's award winning Timeout scheme has seen a dramatic rise in the number of teenagers look ing to take part in sporting activities held during Satur- ^ day evening sessions.
^ At a time when child obesity is becoming a major ^
problem in the United Kingdom, the Timeout session helps youngsters to keep fit and healthy. Due to these increased numbers there will be various
tournaments held over the coming months. A badminton competition on Saturday will kick-start
m ( t Year!) pupils who are the
new Hyndburn and Ribble Valley District netball
champions. Pictured are Chelsey Bobbins, Jenny Catiow, Sarah Forrest, Charlotte Rowlandson, Rachel Pietrzck, Kate

the events. Both singles and doubles competitions will be available for the teenagers to take part in. Entry -, forms are available from the centre. Timeout co-ordinator Anthony Campbell has seen
interest in the scheme increase of late. He said: “The popularity of the Timeout session has been growing and ( J growing recently and now is a good time to hold these challenges.
“The events will be running alongside the regular
activities offered every week at Timeout so there \vill still be something for everyone!”

■ 'WEATHER permitting.
Dog Inn will seek their sec ond double of the season on Sunday when they take on Ossy Refugees. The Budweiser Boys
were hopeful of beating Globe BuIIough on Sunday, only to see the match post poned minutes before the kick-off, much to manager Simon Kerins frustration. He said: “We had a very strong squad available and I firmly believe th a t we could have won the game. “However, I was really
impressed with everyone’s reaction to the postpone ment - people just want to get back in action and return to winning ways.”
