HOSPITAL Accident and Emergency units treating Ribble Valley patients will get a cash boost after consistently hitting their waiting time targets. The departments at Blackburn Koyal

Infirmary and Burnley General Hospital have both treated 97% of their patients within four hours or less. Now the East Lancashire Hospitals Trust, which runs the hospitals, will be rewarded with £100,000 extra capital to further develop services. This is the fourth stage of a financial

J ^ New bus a life-saver for many folk

THE wheels on the new minibus are going round and round for members of the local MS society branch. Just before Christmas members of

the Clitheroe and Kibble Valley MS Society took delivery of their third specially-adapted vehicle. The firs t minibus was bought

through anonymous donations and was updated five years ago. Since then enough cash has been

saved and raised to buy a replace ment vehicle from a specialist com pany in Wigan to aid members living in and around the Kibble Valley. Money from collections, the

branch’s annual flag day, private donations and cash given by organi sations all helped towards the total. The bus is used to take members of

the MS society on theatre trips and meals out, and to transport people to the Contact Club which meets on a Tuesday a t Henthorn Community Centre. A pool of volunteer drivers, some

of them members of Clitheroe and Kibblesdale Kotary Clubs, work on a ro ta to ensure a driver is always available. Mr John Bailey, branch chairman, said: “One of the main things our

members enjoy is having a ride out, a day out or another trip. “There are one or two members

who, without the bus, would not get out of their houses. This bus does provide a valuable service.” He added: “Purchasing the new

bus has been achieved by the gen erosity of the people of Clitheroe and the Kibble Valley, the tremendous involvement of the Kotary Clubs of Clitheroe and Kibblesdale and all the hard work of fund-raising volunteers. “The MS society is very grateful

to everyone who has been involved.” (s)

incentive scheme where every hospital trust in England delivering faster care for patients in accident and emergency is able to access up to £500,000 in stages until March 2005. Government Health Minister Kosie

KUKAL communities looking to develop their own Information and Communica tion Technology (ICT) projects could benefit from a free “How-To” event in Chipping next month. Taking place a t Chipping Village Hall

on Friday, March 18th, the event is being run by the Lancaster-based ICT Kural Matrix Project. I t aims to provide a straightforward

and emergency within four hours, often far less. I'm delighted to reward this hard work and improved performance with £100,000 capital to further improve ser vices and facilities.” The departments a t Blackburn Koyal

Infirmary and Burnley General Hosnital have used a variety of methods and new ways of working to improve and speed up the treatment of patients. These include streamlining and separating those patients with minor injuries from those with major ones and also navigating patients through the department in a more efficient fashion with an experienced nurse. Anne Asher, acting chief executive of the

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, said: "We are delighted to meet this target, thanks to the hard work of staff working in emergency care throughout our hospi tals. The additional capital funds will bring about real improvements for patients. We are now working towards the 98% target which will be our biggest chal lenge yet."
