A homecoming for The World’s 50 Best Restaurants

Initially planned to be celebrated in Moscow, the 2022 edition of the annual celebration of the world’s top restaurants will instead return to its roots. In its 20th year the celebration of the world’s best restaurants

will return to where it all began, in London. Since 2016 when the organization decided to take the celebrations to New York City it has been an international affair, having since been held in Melbourne, Bilbao, Singapore and Antwerp – where Danish Noma was named the number one in the world in 2021. The 2022 event was planned to take place in Moscow but the conflict currently taking place between Russia and Ukraine means the event will instead come back to the British capital on

Monday 18 July at Old Billingsgate, home to the world’s largest fish market in the 19th century. “We are thrilled to announce the date for The World’s 50 Best

Restaurants Awards 2022 at such an iconic and historic London venue,” says William Drew, director of content for The World’s 50 Best Restaurants. “We can’t wait to bring the global gastronomic community back together in full once again, as well as to share with the world the incredible developments in London’s restaurant scene over recent years.” Program highlights in London in mid-July will include the #50BestTalks forum, a Chefs’ Feast showcasing the produce and cooking from the UK, the Meet the Chefs media roundtable

and the awards ceremony and unveiling of the 2022 list. New for this year is a 50 Best Collaboration Dining series, which will see leading chefs and restaurants in London team up with visiting 50 Best chefs from all over the world to create bespoke menus for one night only. Further information on participating chefs and restaurants and how to book will be made available in due course. In addition to the principal title awarded to the restaurant

voted the best in the world, other prizes including The World’s Best Female Chef, One to Watch, Art of Hospitality and Sustainable Restaurant Award, will be announced in the run-up to the London event.

Drone food delivery takes flight

The Irish technology firm Manna has announced ambitious plans to expand its drone delivery services into several European countries from 2023 onwards. The company is understood to be planning up to 70 locations spread across six countries. Manna launched in 2019 and has been conducting test delivery flights in Ireland delivering food and groceries in a suburb of Dublin. The drones can carry a payload of around 2kg, cruise at 60 meters (196ft) and travel at speeds of 50mph.
