Achieve the perfect steam bath experience

Premium wellness technology provider Kemitron breaks down the benefits of opting for a steam bath over a traditional sauna in your professional or personal spa area.

he idea of using steam for health and relaxation is not new but developed in many different parts of the world over centuries. To this day there are many different cultures where steam baths are traditional; think the Turkish hammam, Roman caldarium or Russian banya. Steam baths are not to be confused with saunas: though both facilities get very warm and people visit them to sweat, the similarities end there. While in a sauna users experience dry heat at high temperatures (except during the infusion) in a steam bath the temperature is rarely over 50°C. Instead, there is high humidity of up to 100%.

Health benefits of steam baths Steam baths can have a positive effect on skin, hair, respiratory organs and general health in several ways, including: ■ calming the nerves ■ relieving tension ■ alleviating rheumatic complaints ■ relaxing the muscles and the soul ■ reducing sleep disturbances ■ easing symptoms of colds and respiratory diseases

The role fragrance plays in steam baths

The unique relaxation experience in a steam bath is, of course, provided by the steam. If a fragrance is used in the steam it can either invigorate or relax, depending on the intended effect. Fragrances can also have a positive effect on the respiratory tract, assisting with decongestion, and can promote blood circulation; provided that the fragrance compositions are based on natural essential oils, such as those from Kemitron. The fragrance in a steam bath must be supplied in a different way to a sauna, being pumped in through the steam

rather than the infusion water. This means that different demands are made on the fragrance development. In any case, the fragrance must not change even in the presence of heat and humidity, instead remaining stable in terms of scent development and fragrance characteristics. It is only in this way that the user can receive a unique experience. Kemitron offers different fragrances for the various dispensing areas: Aromee intense for commercial and residential users and Aromee basic for bulk users.

Scent distribution is key For the best possible distribution and adequate dosing of the scents, a scent dosing pump is particularly useful in the commercial sector. This is advantageous for those who do not always want to check for the correct dosage personally. After all, too much fragrance can prove annoying for the user, and too little can become imperceptible.

Scents can be added to the vapour before vaporisation through scent dosing pumps, for a constantly intense scent. High-quality fragrances and fragrance dosing pumps are available from Kemitron. For the all-round carefree package, Kemitron also provides a control system so both the steam generator and dosing pump can be regulated.

The importance of steam bath hygiene

The use of a steam bath should be followed by thorough cleaning. This should be done very carefully, because permanently warm humidity can quickly lead not only to mould growth but also to unsightly calcification, which must be prevented. Due to the humidity in spa areas, the steam bath should be cleaned thoroughly at least once a day. This means cleaning the walls, seating areas, floors and fittings, leaving no area without a thorough clean. Kemitron also offers a suitable product for this purpose: Pure Wisin. Private users should also clean the steam bath after each use. If the dirt and grime has not yet dried, it is much easier to remove. For this purpose, Kemitron recommends the Kemitron Pure Spa + Bath Cleaner.

The steam bath is a less stressful alternative to the traditional sauna. For those who prefer a warm experience to a decidedly hot one, the 40°C to 50°C temperature in a steam bath is more beneficial than the range of 80°C to a maximum of 130°C in classic saunas. The overall effect of a steam bath on the body is gentler than that of the classic sauna, providing a wide range of health benefits in a less intense setting. ●
