Light at the end of the tunnel T

he hotel industry entered 2022 with high hopes for recovery and travel after a rough couple of years. Though the rising rates of Covid- 19 in China and the ongoing war in Ukraine have put a dampener on expected renewal, there has been growth in the industry as occupancy remains stable in Europe and hopeful holidaymakers flock to hotels as the opportunity for travel presents itself. With the pandemic slowly receding, events are coming back with force – and none more so than EHMA’s 48th Annual General Meeting. Showcasing the passion of its hoteliers and celebrating its hotel heroes, the event set its sights on the future, as we find out on page 12. We also find out how the pandemic has affected hotel trends as we speak to Brad Berry, vice- president of global residential development at Rosewood, about the rising popularity of residential hotels on page 16. We also find some good in the world as Mae Losasso finds out what hotels are doing to make a difference on page 52, as she speaks to philanthropist Daniele Kihlgren and Accor chief sustainability office Bruce Poirson. And finally, the pandemic has affected more than just travel over the past few years, including how we look at our health. Elly Earls finds out how Chiva-Som has adapted its holistic approach to provide a full- immersion wellness resort for guests in the Middle East on page 59. While the hotel industry still has a way to go, the path to recovery seems set. I hope you enjoy the latest edition of Hotel Management International as we look forward to the future.
