Obituary: Mike Cater
It is with much regret and sadness that we have learned of the death of Mike Cater, who passed away on October 30. Having entered the timber trade in the early 1960s, initially with J Eidelman and subsequently with Bambergers, Mr Cater eventually set up his own agency, MCI Plywood where he became a well-known personality throughout the trade. He became a great supporter of the Plywood Club of London, serving two terms as chairman (1988-90 and 1993-
95) and eventually took on the role of president for several years. Mr Cater was keen to give something back to the timber trade. He was on the committee of the National Panel Products Division of the Timber Trade Federation for many years, including a three-year stint as chairman. In later years he gave invaluable support to the Timber Trades Benevolent Society (London & Home Counties/East Anglia Region) as a beneficiary visitor and organiser of its annual Golf Day.
Established in 1984, Parker Building Supplies unveiled its bespoke radio channel for customers and staff as part of its 40- year anniversary celebrations. Parker’s in-branch radio aims to highlight key initiatives such as its ongoing charitable endeavours as well as covering local customer stories, plus events and news of interest to customers. The celebrations kicked off on September 5 with a customer and supplier event at the Moy Avenue branch in Eastbourne offering food, music from the Fix Street team, special offers and lots of freebies, plus donations to Teenage Cancer Trust encouraged.
Graham Mackie brings a wealth of timber frame and engineering experience to the role, having worked for over 20 years within the timber frame industry. Mr Mackie will have overall
responsibility for the Group’s product and solution technical requirements, working with external suppliers and internal teams across a comprehensive portfolio, including Pasquill, Roofspace Solutions, Intrastack and Scotframe.
