Wednesbury-based timber pallet and packaging specialist Nicklin Transit Packaging has invested in 2-way pallet automation to increase capacity and also help customers in the region meet their decarbonisation targets. “The 2-way pallet market, which is dominated by the construction sector, has

changed significantly in recent years with the ongoing trend of consolidation within the pallet sector and as more independent manufacturers and suppliers are acquired by larger operators, so the choice for customers has diminished,” said David Nicklin, chief executive officer. “This investment will not only significantly increase our capacity but means that we are now the only West Midlands pallet manufacturer with a 2-way pallet line.

“In tandem with our 4-way pallet automation, this means that our customers can source all their pallet requirements from us in the knowledge that they will get all the benefits of working with an experienced, independent company, as well as being able to reduce their carbon miles by sourcing their pallets from a local manufacturer.”

Crane Garden Buildings invests in robotic spray paint line

Crane Garden Buildings has installed a robotic spray paint line at its headquarters in Narford, Norfolk.

The multi-million-pound conveyor line was publicly revealed for the first time at an on-site event to celebrate the family- run company’s 50th anniversary. The investment is expected to be fundamental to the business’ plans to grow by 10% year-on-year over the next decade. The new line is a power-and-free

overhead conveyor that moves the company’s timber garden buildings through the factory, removing approximately half a million manual lifts a year. Once on the conveyor, the building panels pass through the robotic paint line and then into a drying system, which ensures the paint is applied and dried under consistent ideal conditions. “The line is the biggest investment we’ve ever made,” said James Crane, owner.

national training manager at Rushlift. “That’s why in-depth training and gaining the right skills is so essential. The new facilities include a spacious training room that can comfortably accommodate up to 16 trainees. A large screen TV is used to display presentations, with computer tablets available to access technical information. The practical workshop area is well appointed for technical training, offering tooling, benches and diagnostic equipment for hands-on training. The area is also used for operator training, allowing trainees to practice driving manoeuvres, such as stacking and de-stacking using the dedicated racking.

Donaldson software enables full house 3D visualisation

Donaldson Group has developed a unique 3D house visualisation software tool to help housebuilders market new homes. The fully walkable virtual home selection software, Spec3D, provides everything needed to digitalise entire show homes and manage and sell upgrades in full 3D. The platform gives housebuilders the power to let customers select key elements – such as kitchen units and bathroom tiles – put them together and explore a realistic 3D version of their new home, from any device, at any time. The tool prices items as they’re added, and it has a customer management system that helps sales staff sell their homes easier.

The tool has seen immediate success, and the Spec3D team has signed deals with a number of housebuilders, including Easy Living Developments, as well as securing two clients to supply website visualisers for their brands.
