LNEC support to the design adaptation of Alto Tâmega dam due to the rockslide on the right bank slope
Figure 17. Horizontal displacements measured in the pendulum FP2 (above), located over the adjusted zone of the foundation (below), during the first filling of the reservoir and the following months
• seepage and leakage through the drainage system were generally small or non- existent, namely in the foundation gallery of the right bank and in the bottom gallery on the interface between the
new concrete structure and the foundation (Figure 16). Notable exceptions included seepage values from drains D-01-1 and D-01-2 within the central zone, which measured approximately 27 l/min and 64 l/min, respectively, at the retention water level (RWL);
• resurgences were observed in January 2023 within the rock gallery in the left bank (GRA). These were promptly rerouted, and no additional resurgences were identified thereafter;
• uplift pressures in the interface between the dam and rock mass foundation recorded in piezometers were generally low, except in the central zone and at low elevation in the left bank, for piezometers
P-01 (block B1), P-05 (block B5), and P-02 (block B2), which measured uplift pressures up to 70%, 80%, and 60% of the hydraulic load, respectively;
• other measurements from weirs and piezometers in the monitoring system of the new concrete structure reported negligible or reduced values;
