PROJECTS
Night view of west facade
ICONIC FACADES THAT BLEND INTO NATURE To catch visitor’s spatial experience, a large area of blank surfaces and void at staggering heights are attached. In addition, the goal from this project is to enhance user’s journey of entering the building and interaction with outdoor environment from the inside.
The whole architecture form is sloped upwards, with stacked volumes extending to the sky and Yanhan Mountain. Diversified structural blocks and distinct material textures complement each other, together producing an iconic facade.
The east facade is partially hidden in nature. Thus the main entrance is set beside the west square, which can be reached by pedestrians and vehicles along a slope, taking advantage of the height difference of the site. The boundary of the slope is defined by weathering steel screens, helping to guide the visitors to stroll upwards and reach the main entrance.
Structural reinforcement method applied in the form of bonding profile steel and anchoring stirrups. To enrich and integrate architectural spaces in a holistic building surface,

natural-toned materials are applied such as laminated bamboo, ultra-clear glass, glass brick and white latex paint.
SPATIAL ORGANISATION The second floor repurposed into a vigorous space for pop- up market and exhibition, while the third mainly functions as workspace. Fourth and fifth floor is the most complex space, accommodating an urban exhibition hall, bookstore, gallery space, and theatre entrance and restaurant.
As the elevator reaches fourth floor, the urban exhibition hall where visitors can wander around will immediately come into view. The bookstore is set around the skylight and large areas of glass that bring daylight and outdoor greenery into the space, thereby enhancing fusion and interaction between interior and outside.
Opposite to the bookstore is an art gallery, with a retained- existing structural column. The exposed reinforced concrete column contrasts with clean and smooth new walls, generating a dialogue between the old and new.
