Conservation Biology Program Launched at Queens
Queens University of Charlotte has launched an exciting new program in the College of Arts and Sciences. Students interested in conservation, wildlife and sustainability can now major or minor in conservation biology. Tyler Hallman, Ph.D., a landscape ecologist, conservation biologist, and ornithologist who, before coming to Queens, completed a two-year postdoc at Oregon State University and a two-year postdoc at the Swiss Ornithological Institute in Sempach, Switzerland, will lead the program. "The conservation biology program is designed to provide students with hands-
on interdisciplinary experience in the conservation sciences," said Hallman. "The program emphasizes the real work behind conservation and sustainability, which involves collaborations with partners in policy, sociology, economics, ethics, media studies, and much more." Through internships with partner organizations such as the Carolina Raptor
Center, Catawba Lands Conservatory and Catawba Riverkeeper, students will gain hands-on field experience. "I'm excited to share my passion for the natural world with students and look
forward to developing collaborative and interactive research opportunities both locally and internationally," said Hallman. "I believe we are in a unique position to serve the local community while providing students with the interdisciplinary experience to change the world for the better."
