Robert and Sadie Anderson Foundation
The Robert and Sadie Anderson Foundation generously supports spiritual life programming at Queens. This year, their investment helped Belk Chapel grow as a dynamic hub for interfaith dialogue, transformational experiences, and compassionate action – reaching across campus and into the broader community.
In our neighborhood, their support allowed Presbyterian and Pluralist Week to expand significantly. Students led powerful community presentations, and faculty across disciplines wove religious pluralism into their coursework in order to foster meaningful conversations in the classroom. Belk Chapel’s partnerships with local organizations like Room in the Inn, First Presbyterian Church’s Nourish Up food pantry, and Roof Above created more opportunities for our campus to live our moto, “Not to be served, but to serve.” The Chapel provided 42 overnight beds and more than 125 meals on campus for unhoused neighbors. Queens students also helped Nourish Up open its doors on weekends for the first time.
The Chapel’s work doesn’t stop at the city limits. Over spring break, 14 students traveled to Douglas, Arizona, and Sonora, Mexico, to study immigration and human migration in partnership with Frontera de Cristo. This annual trip brings classroom learning to life and puts students at the heart of a humanitarian crisis. In Chicago, students participated in the Interfaith Leadership Summit, where they learned how to foster understanding across lines of difference.
Spiritual life programming was also significantly enriched this year through the addition of a dedicated student coordinator and graduate assistant, made possible by the generous support of the Anderson Foundation. We are deeply grateful for far-reaching investments like theirs, which are helping to cultivate a more thoughtful, connected, and compassionate Queens community.
