FROME CAB DRIVER MOLESTED 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL IN THE BACK OF HIS TAXI

A taxi driver who molested a 12-year- old girl in the back of his cab will spend the next four years behind bars. Paedophile Wayne Gainey became the first man at Swin- don Crown Court to fall foul of rule changes that came into force in April. Those changes a u t oma t i c a l l y require anyone jailed for more than seven years for offences that carry a maximum of life

imprisonment to serve at least two thirds of their sen- tence in prison. Judge Jason Taylor QC sentenced the man to six years and four months imp r i s o nme n t , ordering the 38- year-old serve an extra year on licence as he is a sexual offender of particular concern. Earlier, the court heard how Gainey had met his 12-year- old victim after being sent to pick

her up in his taxi from her school last June. The girl’s teacher had fallen pregnant and she spoke to the cabbie about it.

JAIL FOR BRIGHTON TAXI DRIVER WHO LIED ABOUT SPEEDING

A taxi driver from Brighton who lied about speeding and going through a red light has been jailed. Ahmad Rastinsani, 55, was caught driving a Streamline Taxi vehicle at 37mph in a 30mph zone. Brighton and Hove City Council rules state that drivers who get seven or more points in one year have to take an assessment test. As Rastinsani had already accumulat- ed six points on his licence in one year, he knew more points would mean that his taxi licence would be reviewed. So Rastinsani lied

The man had taken this as an invitation to move on to have sex with her, even though she did not want to. He parked in a secluded spot in Southwick. In the back of his blacked- out taxi cab he molested her. The assault

lasted

around a minute, he later told police. He asked for her phone number and to keep her under- wear. The girl reported the assault when she was dropped off at home. In a victim statement read to the court by prosecutor Gordon Ross, the girl said she had felt dis- gusted. “I thought he would kill me,” she said. “It makes me think it could happen to me again and I’m a target

because of my age and being in care. This was one of the first things he asked me. We’re easy tar- gets.” When

police

arrested him they seized his comput- er and phone, finding three cate- gory A indecent images of children, one image in cate- gory B and 109 in category C. They included an image of a baby and girls aged seven to 15. 51 pictures showed the same 14-year-old girl, who had sent the images to Gainey three years earlier. Analy- sis of his computer showed he had trawled the web using search terms like “pre-teen” and “naked schoolgirls”. Gainey, from Frome, pleaded guilty to sexual assault by

penetration of a girl under 13, sexual assault on a child under 13 and three counts of making indecent images of children. Sentencing Gainey, the Judge said: “You grossly abused your duty of care to this child and it is clear from her victim per- sonal statement this has had a salutary effect upon her and in the same way your

life has

changed forever so has hers – and her sentence will remain with her longer than yours in many respects.” Gainey was made subject to a sexual harm prevention order, to limit his interaction with underage girls for the rest of his life. He must sign onto the sex offender register for life.

‘PILLS WORTH £10,000’ FOUND AFTER TAXI STOPPED IN HALIFAX

about who was driving the vehicle at the time of the offence. He claimed a friend from Iran was driving but records showed it was him driving the Mercedes. Rastinsani claimed that he had made an honest mistake, but when Lewes Crown Court heard

that the Iranian had not been in the country since 2016, he admitted per- verting the course of justice. Judge Mark Van Der Zwart said the public must have confidence in the authorities and taxi drivers and jailed Rastinsani for two months.

A taxi driver has been charged with possessing Class C drugs with intent to supply after thou- sands of pills were found at an address. After

community intelli- gence, a West Yorkshire police officer had stopped a taxi on Shay Lane in the Ovenden area

receiving

of Halifax in Febru- ary. and the taxi was searched. An amount of pills were found within the taxi resulting in the driver being arrested on suspi- cion of possession with intent to sup- ply. A search of an ad- dress linked to the suspect was then carried out and

thousands of pills were located valued at over £10,000. The CPS have re- viewed

the

evidence and have made a decision to charge the suspect with three counts of Possession with Intent to Supply Class C drugs as three different types of pills were found.
