MYSTERY WOMAN PAYS TAXI RUNNER’S UNPAID BILL TO THE AMAZEMENT OF REDCAR CAB FIRM

A new taxi firm in Redcar which was "ripped off" by a persistent taxi run- ner has had the bill settled by an anony- mous well-wisher. Red-Car Taxis post- ed a picture of the 'customer' on social media claiming they had run up a tab of £70 with drivers by refusing to pay for three separate jour- neys.

"Hoped it wouldn't come to this," the post said, "but sometimes the only way to stop some- one is to name and

shame. It's not fair to our drivers who are

extremely hard, its them who lose out and it's wasting their time. "We are trying so hard to provide a good service for Redcar, we can do without people like this." Within hours a woman, who did not want to be named, rang the firm and paid the bill - saying she wanted to "thank those decent drivers" for their ser- vice.

The three friends, who started Red- Car Taxis during lockdown, say they are blown away by the gesture and people

have

responded on social media, calling her an "absolute legend" for her "wonderful and selfless act of kindness". The firm said: "She felt so strongly about the drivers being ripped off that she paid the money

herself

straight to each driver that was out of pocket.

12

August when a man approached her and cornered her in a doorway before attempting to sexu- ally assault her. After the victim hailed a taxi, the

man then tried to get in claiming he was ‘taking her home’. However, he was stopped in his tracks by a quick-thinking cabbie, working for Kaminski Cabs, who was alarmed by what was happen- ing. The woman said: "I’d like to thank the Kaminski driver who stopped that man from assaulting me, you may have quite literally saved my life. "A man was trying to get into the taxi

claiming it was his and he was taking me home, and lucki- ly the driver spotted what was going on. Police confirmed that they had been alerted to the inci- dent. A Staffs Police spokesman said: "A man jumped ahead of a woman and got into a taxi in Bridge Street, Stafford. “Although no threat was made he was asked to leave by the taxi driver who was concerned for the woman’s safety."

LIVERPOOL DRIVER SAVES WOMAN WHO HAS BIKE STOLEN

A worker at the Royal Liverpool Hospital had her new bike stolen from outside her work on the very first day she used it. Bella-Mae Stapleton, 19, had locked it up outside the hospital but was “devastat- ed” to find it gone

when she came to ride it home after her shift. She reported the theft but says she can’t believe a thief would be so low as to take a bike that was locked up out- side a hospital. After Bella-Mae posted about the

theft on a Liverpool Facebook group, a kind-hearted taxi driver has offered to give her free lifts until she can get some other form of transport secured. Bella-Mae said she was

extremely

thankful for the kind offer.

HERO LIVERPOOL TAXI DRIVER TOOK INJURED CAT TO VETS

A woman is trying to trace a hero taxi driver who selflessly took her cat to the vets after it had been hit by a car. Jess Kelly, 23, was woken up at 2am on Sunday 9 August by a phone call from a vet to be told that her cat, Smudge, had been dropped off, seriously injured, at a pet hospital in Huyton.

Smudge had been hit by a car and had serious injuries to her chest and lungs. When Jess asked how her cat had ended up at the vets, all staff could tell her was that her cat had been dropped off by a taxi driver in the middle of the night. Now Jess wants to find the compas- sionate driver.

Jess said: “I’m so happy that someone brought her in. She probably wouldn’t have survived if they hadn’t done that. I’d like to thank the person for giving her a chance to sur- vive. She could have just been left in the road. She’s in a bad way at the moment but because of this taxi driver’s actions, she’s still here.”
