KNIFEMAN THREATENED TO KILL PLYMOUTH CABBIE

A man pulled a knife on a taxi driver and demanded he hand over his earnings or else he would kill him. Tommy Bottrill, from Torpoint, pleaded guilty at Plymouth Crown Court to the robbery which took place in February 2019. Bottrill and two other men had been picked up by taxi driver Andrei Lozo- vamu at around 4am. Bottrill got into the front seat and asked the driver to pull over in a seclud- ed dead end road, and the two rear passengers got out. The court heard that Bottrill pulled out a knife – around 20cm long - and said: “Give me all of your money or I will kill you”.

Mr Lozovamu pas- sed over around £50 in notes but Bottrill then lifted the knife up and repeated his demand, so the driv- er handed more than £20 in small change. Bottrill then grabbed the internal dashcam and got out of the taxi. In a victim impact statement Mr Lozo- vamu said the incident frightened him and he still is nervous about pick- ing up passengers. He said he had been

“afraid for my life” but said he had to carry on his job as a taxi driver to earn a living. He added: “This incident has changed me and I don’t think I will ever be the same”. The court heard Bot- trill was later ar- rested and replied “no comment” dur- ing his police inter- view. The court was told that Bottrill had three convictions for eight offences, the last being in Octo- ber 2019 where he received an 18 month prison sen- tence for threat- ening people with a kitchen knife. He was jailed for two years and four months after the court heard he had turned his life around.

ing to police. The fee was one of the highest pay- ments one police officer has seen awarded to a crash victim. In a tweet, Greater Manchester Traffic Police said: “I had to read the committal sheet twice myself!!!

“It has to be paid in full within six months which will come in handy for the victim who has- n’t been able to work since the inci- dent. “It’s certainly one of the highest awards I’ve ever seen which puts the victim first.”

BASINGSTOKE DRIVER PUNCHED BY WOMAN TO AVOID PAYING FARE

A Basingstoke wo- man punched a taxi driver in the face in order to avoid pay- ing her fare of £18. At Basingstoke Mag- istrates’ Court Char- lie-Louise Batchelor admitted assaulting driver Manish Sab- harwal

having

changed her plea from not guilty . She jumped out of the taxi in the early hours of the morn-

ing of June 1, 2019. Mr Sabharwal fol- lowed her home and managed to stop her from shutting the door on him. But Batchelor punched the taxi driver in the face around the par- tially closed door, causing redness and pain, but no lasting injuries. When police attend- ed the address Batchelor claimed

that it was not her who they were look- ing for, but someone called Tess who was living with her. Magistrates fined the 23-year-old £54 per charge, as well as £50 compensa- tion for the assault, plus £18 for the orig- inal taxi fare. She was also ordered to pay £100 in costs and a £32 victim sur- charge.

DERBYWOMAN PUNCHES DRIVER IN ROW OVER FARE

A boozing woman punched a taxi driv- er and damaged his car during a fare dis- pute, she was one of three passengers. According to Der- byshireLive, the cab- bie was asked to make a second drop off and he asked if they had the money to pay. The court heard how front passenger Shannon Jowett told him that he would get his

money following the second drop off. Not accepting this, the driver refused to take the women any further and the 18- year-old began abusing him, shout- ing at him and went on to call him a fat ****, before damag- ing a wing mirror, punching the driver and kicking him in the leg. Jowett from Derby, pleaded guilty to one charge of as-

sault by beating and one charge of crimi- nal damage. She was handed a 12-month condition- al discharge and ordered to pay £240 compensation. The Judge said: “I hope that hearing the facts read out again today has appalled you. It was- n’t very nice be- haviour, was it? Three young ladies can be as vicious as three young men.”
