car park in Per- shore to take them to a party in Bishampton. But when he arrived six teens wanted a lift

and were told that four was the maxi- mum he could take so the rest would have to find anoth- er way to travel. The 43-year-old said: They were messing around for about five minutes and I didn’t realise all the boys had got in. It was as I looked back to reverse that I saw them all crammed in the back.” After telling them to get out, the boys

NEWTOWN MAN ‘SPEAR TACKLED’ TAXI DRIVER

A Newtown man “spear tackled” a taxi driver and then fell into a river run- ning away from a police officer, a court heard. According to the Powys County Times, Dray Rogers, 19, admitted grie- vous bodily harm without intent in on March 21. Helen Tench, pros- ecuting, told Welsh- pool Magistrates’ Court that the defendant was in the passenger seat of the taxi and that there were three other passengers in the back. The victim, Shain Uddin Ahmed, al- leged that Rogers kicked the door and that there was then

a verbal altercation when he asked: “Why are you doing that?”, Ms Tench said. Rogers then spear tackled the taxi driver onto the tar- mac and held his head against the road. Witnesses called the police and when they arrived the defendant was still at the scene. However, he ran off and PC Jones fol- lowed him. Rogers had then fallen into a river and was arrested by the officer, magistrates heard. Mr Ahmed was taken to hospital with injuries includ- ing a displaced fracture and a bro-

ken bone to the top of his right shoulder, Ms Tench said. The court heard that Rogers had denied spearing Mr Ahmed but accept- ed the injuries. Magistrates sent the case to Mold Crown Court where he will be sen- tenced alongside another GBH of- fence on Septem- ber 2. “We think it makes sense to go to the crown court,” said chair of the bench Lynette Kretchmer; where she said the judge could decide whether Rogers had speared the victim. Rogers is on unconditional bail.

became violent. One teen punched Mr Dale, just scrap- ing his shoulder, while another hit him in the jaw through the open driver’s window, before another tried to steal the keys. As Mr Dale tried to get out of

the car, they slam- med the door on him twice and as he drove away one of them teenager’s kicked the back of his car, leaving a dent in the body- work. Fortunately Mr Dale was not seri- ously injured in the

attack but said he is still in shock after the attack. He said: “That’s never happened to me before. I don’t think it’s kicked in yet. It might do later the next time I pick up four lads at night.” A 16-year-old Wor- cester teenager was arrested on Saturday 8 August after the incident which happened at around 10:40pm and has since been bailed. Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 quoting crime reference 22/66742/20.

BROXBOURNE DRIVER ASSAULTED IN ‘NASTY’ ATTACK

A taxi driver was robbed and assault- ed by a group of people in what police described as a ‘nasty’ attack in Cheshunt. The incident hap- pened at 2.30am on

Saturday,

August 22 when an A2B driver was picking up a fare outside the One Stop store. It start- ed when the driver’s keys were snatched and then he was attacked as he tried to get them back leaving him with loose

teeth, severe swell- ing and contusions. The victim also had two phones, a bag and car keys stolen. Officers are now appealing for wit- nesses

from

anyone in the area at the time. DC Richard Web- ster, said: “This was an unprovoked attack on a family man trying to earn a living. “The inci- dent would have been noticeable. It started when a white male got into the rear seat of the silver Vivaro taxi

initially and a black female then started an argument with him. “Another white male then opened the driver’s door and took the car keys out of the ignition. When the driver attempted to get them back, the female blocked his way and then assaulted him.She was then joined in the assault by a younger black male, possibly her son. Several other youths then joined in.”
