TRADE ORGANISATIONS JOIN IN JUDICIAL REVIEW OF STREETSPACE FOR LONDON
The United Trade Action Group (UTAG) and the Licensed Taxi Drivers Associa- tion (LTDA) have joined together in asking for a judicial review of the entire Streetspace for Lon- don initiative, plus the Bishopsgate Bus Gate scheme which excludes black cabs during peak times. UTAG said in an email to its sub- scribers: “Our QC, Barrister
and
Instructing Solicitor have worked cease- lessly to prepare a compelling legal challenge against the plan and the impact it would have on us, and
more importantly our passengers, who depend on our ser- vice. “We cannot divulge the legal arguments cited in this JR but can say they are forceful, apposite and well considered. “When the Respon- dents; Transport for
London and The Mayor have had time to digest our challenge we may be able to give you more information but must be guided by our expert legal team.” Sadiq Khan an- nounced the Street- space for London
initiative last month, in which plans were detailed that will “create more space for people to safely walk or cycle as our city emerges from the coronavirus lockdown”. This includes tem- porary cycle lanes and wider pave- ments many of which have started to appear already. These plans have been slammed by both UTAG and the LTDA. General Sec- retary of the LTDA, Steve McNamara, described the pro- posed increased cycling infrastruc- ture in general as “a class war”.
VEHICLE AGE LIMITS
In these unprece- dented times, we have put temporary arrangements and special in place. Any taxi vehicle that is now 14+ years old or PHV that is 9+ years old, that would have sought to surrender and then renew its licence for a final time between 23 March and 30 June 2020 (inclusive), can obtain a final 12- month licence. These arrangements are in place for a limited period and the affected vehi- cles must surrender and then obtain a final licence by 31 August 2020. For
further details read: TPH Notice 11/20.
