BRIGHTON DRIVERS’ NEW RESPONSIBILITIES
Although Southern Taxis’ usual stream of passengers may be absent during the coronavirus cri- sis, owner Andrew Cheesman is as busy as ever. The firm, which also runs City Cabs Brighton and South Coast Taxis, is the main contractor for the NHS and South Central Ambulance Service and has been ferrying doc- tors, nurses, key workers and pat- ients to hospital. To ensure the safety
of those taking journeys, several steps have been taken to in order to prepare taxis to protect passengers and drivers alike. Andrew said: “Many vehicles have been adapted to have a screen fitted in them to separate the passenger. Staff are also provided with aprons, gloves, face masks and an orange bag. The equipment is only used once, then put in the orange bag and incinerated.”
CHESTERFIELD TAXI FIRM INTRODUCES SAFETY SCREENS
A-Line Taxis based in Chesterfield has introduced protec- tive equipment in its cabs to protect drivers and passen- gers. According to the Derby Telegraph, the firm has made the move to reas- sure its staff and customers who may be put off from being in close prox- imity during the lockdown. accounts manager at A-Line, said the equipment was ex- tremely useful. She said: “We have launched a stay safe campaign by fitting
a plastic screen pro- tector into taxis. We are the first in Chesterfield to have screens fitted as we wanted to give our customers confi- dence to travel and our drivers the abili- ty to work in a safe environment. “We wanted to plan for the future, as there will be no quick fix to the pan- demic and we believe this simple piece of material will help us and cus- tomers travel safely. Our drivers will also continue their regu- lar cleaning after each passenger to ensure further pro- tection.”
