UBER SUSPENDS AUSTRALIAN DRIVER FOR POSTING RACIAL ABUSE FOOTAGE
An Uber driver in Australia has been suspended after he publicly shamed two passengers who abused him and spat on his car when he refused to drive them. George Michael Gilto was working as an Uber driver in south Sydney, when he picked up two men who got into his car with a case of beer. When he asked the men to put the beer in the boot of the car rather than the back seat they refused and started abusing him, prompting him to cancel the trip. Footage shows the men questioning why Mr Gilto cancelled the ride with one of themsaying: “We’ve got to go to Marrickville dude, it’s a big ride”. Mr Gilto said he did not care about the money before the man holding the case of beer called him “aggressive” as they started to get out of the car. “You’re a peasant mate, you’re a f**king peasant,” the man on his phone said. “Hey, you’re working on a f**king Friday night look at the f***ing car you’re driving you f**king loser c**t. F**k out of here.” Theman holding the beer said: “You’re a full on dirty Arab c**t hey”. The otherman told his friend he’s being racist before saying: “You’re not a dirty Arab - you’re just a f***ing scumbag”. After the men finally get out and began to walk away, one of the men spat on the car. The video shows police talking to Mr Gilto after fining both men $550 each and telling them to leave the area. “They got into your car and they were treating you in a manner that you shouldn’t have to put up with,” a police officer can be heard saying. Mr Gilto uploaded the post to Tik Tok and Instagram and quickly receivedmore than 81,000 likes and thousands of comments in sup- port. Just two days after uploading the video to his social media accounts, Uber contacted Mr Gilto telling him his employment had been suspended. He said the company gave him an ultimatum to remove the video or lose his job with the drive-sharing service. “There has been a report from a user of the app that you may have uploaded personal footage taken in an Uber trip to a public forum without their consent,” the supposed email read. “Because of this, we have to temporarily remove your access to the app.” The email encouraged Mr Gilto to read up on community guidelines, in particular a section called: “Why drivers can lose access to Uber”. Mr Gilto also claims the two men in the video appear to still be allowed to use the app. Uber denied Mr Gilto’s accusations and told Daily Mail Australia his account was suspended for completely unrelated matters. A spokeswoman for the business shared a statement which con- firmed the incident was investigated in late 2019. “Discriminatory or abusive behaviour is not tolerated on the Uber app and is unacceptable anywhere... This incident has no place in our society. “The safety and wellbeing of our driver-partners is important to us. Both driver-partners and riders deserve to feel safe, comfortable and respected when using the app and our community guidelines outline these standards.”

UBER STARTS ELECTRIC TAXI SERVICE IN NETHERLANDS
Uber Green is starting up in the Netherlands, where passengers
are
able to order a fully electric taxi at a cost of two euros more than a regular ride. Uber is starting with 350 taxi drivers, but this number will
in-
crease. Uber’s goal is to become fully electric by 2025. Lisbon and Porto, in Portugal were the first two cities in the world to launch this option permanently. Uber has been hit hard by the corona crisis as people stayed at home and taxi rides were scarce. The company earlier announced that 15% of the jobs in the European headquarters in Amsterdam would disappear. “We’re over the worst, so, we can start growing again,” said Maurits Schönfeld, director of Uber Benelux, which covers Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg.
BEAR ATTACKS UBER DRIVER’S CAR IN RUSSIA TO PROTECT HER CUB
An Uber driver in Russia had a shocking experi- ence with a bear during a night- time drive. The protective mother bear jumped out and attacked the car in order to stop her cub being run over. The driver caught a flash of the bear’s eyes in the distance and veered onto the other side of the road to avoid it but the startled creature still launched an attack on the car. It ran at the car and stood on its hind legs with its front paws on the bonnet, stopping the car dead and terrifying the surprised Uber driver. She and her cub then ran across the other side of the road to safety and the driver carried on his journey. On inspecting the car for damage later on the driver saw clear out- lines of the bear’s paw prints and scuffs from its claws on the bonnet. The driver was travelling at about 65mph when he saw a flash of eyes and began to slow down when a silhouette could be seen. He said: “I thought that it would cross the road and would not touch me but it attacked the car. The bear scratched the wind- screen, bonnet and wing and bent the frame of the car number plate.” Watch the video here:
