A 53-year-old man has been arrested after a taxi driver was subjected to vile racist abuse in the West Midlands. Alarming footage showed a passenger abusing Wolver- hampton-registered driver Abid Mustafa in his taxi. See video by clicking photo. Police have since arrested a man on suspicion of a racial- ly aggravated public order offence. He has been detained in Erdington, Birming- ham. ues.” Father-of-four Mr Mustafa, 39, was driving his customer back home in Birm- ingham on May 15 when the incident happened. He remained calm throughout

warned the man he was being recorded from his dashcam. In a minute-long video posted on social media, driver Abid Mustafa coolly handles the man. “He promised to stop doing it, then as soon as we got going again, after about 50 metres he started up again,” said the taxi driver, who began record- ing at the end of


the journey. He said: “I have a heart and emotions and the words do hurt us. But I chose the profession and I have to face these challenges – if I chose to be in the army I would face battles, and this is the same.” Mr Mustafa, who lives in Erdington, hopes footage of

midnight on 16 June. Chief Inspector Has- son Shigdar of West Midlands Police said: “A 19-year-old fe- male was arrested in the early hours for racially abusing a


taxi driver. Upon arrest she spat on a police officer and then damaged a police vehicle. She is in custody 'sobering up', and will be spo- ken to later today.”

A teenager ap- peared at Exeter Magistrates’ Court on 18 June charged with robbing a taxi driver in Plymouth. Jack Pester-Johns, 19, was arrested on Tuesday evening, 16 June, at his home in

MAN ARMED WITH KNIFE ROBS BELFAST TAXI DRIVER


A taxi driver was reportedly robbed by a man at knife- point in West Belfast at around 10.30pm on 17 June. Detective Sergeant O’Flaherty


said:


“The taxi driver had picked the man up at a taxi rank out- side

A Birmingham taxi driver was assaulted for refusing to take a passenger on a 15- mile trip for just £5. The cabbie was attacked as he was asked about a jour- ney from Yardley on Saturday night, 6


June. But the pas- senger lashed out when he told he could not be taken there for a mere £5. On witnessing the assault, brave mem- bers of the public stepped in and detained a suspect


until police arrived. A 34-year-old man was arrested on sus- picion of assault. He remained in police custody on Sunday morning. The extent of the taxi driver’s injuries are not known.
