DUNDEE MAN STOLE TWO BOTTLES OF VODKA AND FLED INTO PATH OF TAXI WHICH HE THEN TRIED TO STEAL!
A thief who es- caped from a Dundee off-licence with two stolen bottles of vodka ran straight into the path of an oncom- ing taxi. He then tried and failed to steal the cab after the colli- sion, finally crawl- ing away with a “serious leg injury” and one bottle of vodka! The other didn’t survive the crash. The offender, be- lieved to be in his early 20s, was taken to hospital after trying to flee
the off-licence in the Hilltown area of the city. Ambulance and police arrived on the scene at around 7pm after the member of staff, Antonio Casci alerted the authori- ties. The store manager, Umayr Asif, con- firmed that the thief tried to make off with two bottles of Ciroc Vodka, which were worth £33.99 each. The man - who was known to the shop- keepers - placed the items at the cash desk before

grabbing them and running out of the store right into the path of the oncom- ing cab which did not have time to stop. Antonia, 23 said: “The taxi must have
been going at least 20mph when the guy got struck by it. I’d gone out and he was crawling round the taxi trying to get the driver to take him to hospi- tal, whilst
still
holding one bottle of vodka as the other had smashed.” The taxi driver was about to take the man to hospital when he found out what had just hap- pened prior to the collision. Umayr, 29, added: “When the taxi driv- er spoke to Antonio, he told him the injured guy was try- ing to steal the taxi, after
everything
else that had hap- pened.” Antonio added: “I was obviously a bit shocked by every- thing that had
unfolded. When the guy got hit with the taxi I thought given the level of impact he wasn’t going to get up. It was his right leg that was injured in the inci- dent.” A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “The suspect sus- tained a serious leg injury and was treated at
scene before being taken to hospital by the Scottish Ambu- lance
the Service.
Inquires are ongo- ing into the full circumstances of the incident.”
