WORCESTER TAXI BOSS JAILED AFTER BEING CAUGHT DEALING COCAINE

On Wednesday 17 June Choudary Hus- sain, who helped set up Woober taxi ser- vice in Worcester, was jailed for pos- session of cocaine with intent to supply when he appeared at Worcester Crown Court. Tariq Shakoor, pros- ecuting, said that in April 2018 police had received a ‘tip off’ about a suspi- cious vehicle (a VW Golf) parked in Bar- bourne and decided to ‘keep an eye on it’. The defendant ran away when chal- lenged by the police

but was detained and found with the sets of keys to two cars – a Mercedes and a VW Golf which contained the drugs. The

37-year-old

from Worcester was found with 75g of cocaine, with a street value of between

£3,000

and £7,500. He also had £510 cash on him while a further £119 was recovered from his Mercedes. Phones were also recovered, one of which

contained

‘drug dealing text messages’ and sug-

gested he had been dealing for about two months. He was arrested and main- tained his innocence before changing his plea to guilty on March 5 this year. Hussain presented a series of character references to the judge, including one from the former Mayor of Worcester, Cllr Jabba Riaz. The court heard that Hussain had previ- ous convictions, one of which led to a 10- year

prison

sentence, but none for drugs offences. Judge James Bur-

GLASGOWCABBIE ACCUSED OF ASSAULTING THREEWOMEN

A PHV driver has been accused of sexually assaulting three women one of whomwas a passen- ger in his cab. Adil Taj, 41, allegedly assaulted

the

women in Glasgow in September last year. The first assault allegedly happened near

Glasgow

School of Art when Taj

repeatedly

attempted to kiss a woman and hold her by the body. He is then claimed to have sexually assaulted a passen- ger in his taxi by asking if she wanted to kiss him. When she refused, Taj then purportedly stop- ped the taxi and got in the back of the

88 vehicle before

exposing his penis and forcing her hand on to it. The final charge states that the third woman was sexually assaulted on various occasions at Taj’s flat in Springburn. It is claimed that the woman was touched on the body and was told by Taj that

he wanted to kiss her and struck her on the buttocks. A hearing at Glas- gow Sheriff Court on 27 June was postponed due to the

work, had a refer- ence from a former mayor of Worcester and had created a ‘viable, honest busi- ness’. He accepted that there had been a delay to the case and the charging process took ‘some considerable time’ as police looked into

evidence, Choudary Hussain

bidge QC told Hus- sain that drugs offences ‘always

were serious’,

adding: “It destroys people’s lives and destroys communi- ties. You were doing this

solely for

money. Because you had borrowed to

start the business, there was pressure placed upon you to repay that. That is so often how these crimes engage peo- ple.” The judge weighed this against the fact that Hussain had done

charitable

including mobile phones. However, he also said the rea- son for this delay was Hussain ‘lying to the court at the plea and trial prepa- ration hearing as well as in interviews to police’. Hussain was jailed for two years and four months. A pro- ceeds of crime application was also drawn up.

the matter meantime.

speed limit. Officers then became suspi- cious that there may have been drugs in the taxi and they carried out a search. They found what was suspected to be cannabis

and

cocaine inside. The driver was

arrested for pos- sessing cannabis with intent to sup- ply,

cocaine and drug- driving. He was questioned released

possessing and under
