A limousine hire firm has been ordered to remove stickers fea- turing a popular American teenager. Aberdeenshire Coun- cil told Hollywood Cars to strip the stick- ers featuring Hannah Montanna star Miley Cyrus or face failing a private hire test. John Cook, 62, who runs the Westhill- based firm with his wife Veronica, 67, spent three days removing lettering and a picture of the suc- cessful Disney franchise star from a pink Lincoln limousine. Town Hall bosses have licensed their first stretch limousine and party fire engine for private hire.

A spokeswoman for Aberdeenshire Coun- cil said: “All limousines must have permission to display lettering on their vehicles. This is the case with all pri- vate hire vehicles and taxis that can carry up to eight passengers. “If a limousine owner wishes to display let- tering they must submit a request to
the taxi licensing office of the council.
“If this complies with the guidelines permis- sion can be issued by officers. If it is outside the scope of the guidelines it will be considered at the next meeting of the licens- ing sub-committee. “If a vhicle has letter- ing and no request has been submitted or approved that vehicle will not pass the taxi and private hires vehi- cle test.”
Mr Cook said he intends to write to the council to ask for the necessary permission.
According to the Bur- ton Mail, both vehicles have been issued with an eight passenger private hire licence, and will display East Staffordshire Borough
Council’s new internal identification plates so that members of the public can travel in safety, knowing the vehicles have had necessary checks. All limousines must now be licensed, unless they are used exclusively for wed- dings and funerals.
For nine to 16-passen- ger stretch limousines, the driver must have a certificate of initial fit- ness issued by VOSA. Deputy leader for envi- ronment and leisure Bernard Peters said the authority was com- mitted to ensuring the highest standards for its licensed vehicles.
SWOOP ON STRETCH LIMOS IN EAST DEVON
East Devon DC, along- side the usual police and IR agencies recently launched a joint enforcement operation in Exmouth. Similar operations have been carried out in recent weeks in other parts of Devon. A total of 13 vehicles, including five stretch limousines, were
pulled, resulting in five drivers being issued with immediate prohibi- tion notices for a range of defects.
One stretch limousine was seized and impounded. 12 of the vehicles were discov- ered to have been committing offences. Council licensing offi- cers were not satisfied
that two of the stretched limousines were authorised for the carriage of pas- sengers for hire and reward and are contin- uing their inquiries. Licensing manager John Tippin said: “The results of this opera- tion, although disappointing, were not unexpected.
