point of sale ..... point of sale .. NEW FORD MONDEO ZETEC FROM CAB DIRECT

Airport cab operator Stephen Argent is enjoying the benefits of no less than four new Ford Mondeos from Cab Direct. Stephen Argent and business partner Thomas Sowerby have owned Stansted Airport Cars for two years now, employing drivers to transport business travellers, holiday makers and airline crew. Offering flights to more than 160 destinations in over 30 countries, Stansted is Britain’s third-busiest airport. As such, it’s vital that Stephen has vehicles on his fleet he can rely on. That’s why he opted for the new Ford Mondeo Zetec Estate from Cab Direct,

recently adding no less than four to his fleet.

Bags of Space

With lots of luggage laden passengers to cater for, space is something high on the list of priorities for Stephen when choos- ing a taxi. Thankfully, space is Mondeo’s trump card. In fact, at 96mm longer and 120mm wider than its predecessor, the new Mondeo it’s one of the largest vehicles in it’s class. Opt for the estate model, as Stephen did, and enjoy even more lug- gage capacity.

Stephen comments: “Being based at the air- port, it’s essential to be able to accommodate

a lot of luggage. Plus, we have contracts with various airlines to transport their crews, sometimes on trips lasting hours, so com- fort is crucial too. The Mondeo has both in abundance! There’s loads of legroom and the comfort levels are excellent, for both the driver and passen- gers.”

Boasting an impres- sive spec list and superb build quality and design, with the Mondeo you can be sure your passengers will enjoy a relaxing and enjoyable trip every fare.

Reliability

There’s little doubting Mondeo’s reputation - another major plus

point for Stephen. Low servicing costs, a highly economical diesel engine and advanced technical features such as inte- grated driving and handling systems combine to make the Mondeo the perfect partner for the hard working taxi driver. Stephen says: “My vehicles are on the road 24 hours a day

and I need a car that’s both reliable and fuel efficient. The Mondeo fits the bill perfectly. The engine is fantastic - I’ve never had any problems at all.”

Full of Praise

It’s clear that Stephen is delighted with the new additions to his fleet. It would seem the Mon- deo is a big hit with his drivers too. Stephen

comments: “All the driv- ers love the vehicle. I’ve had lots of comments about what a great drive it is - I wouldn’t have expected any- thing less from Ford.” For more information call free on 0800 916 3058, visit www.cabdirect.com or email

CHRYSLER 300C SALOON  SPACIOUS AND COMFORTABLE

With its attention-grab- bing looks, high waistline, bold egg box-shaped front grille and chrome trim, there's no mistaking the Chrysler 300C. If you're after something different from the usual German saloons the big Chrysler is an ideal choice and comes with plenty of road pres- ence as standard. Exceptionally well- equipped, spacious and comfortable, the 300C undercuts its rivals by several thou- sand pounds. There's also the option of a great 3.0-litre V6 diesel that's fairly economi- cal. In early 2008 the model was facelifted with very minor changes to the outside plus a more upmarket feel to the cabin. American cars have tended to handle badly on UK roads in the past, with soft suspen- sion, vague steering and iffy brakes. But don't let the 300C's all- American looks fool you into thinking it fol- lows this pattern. It's

actually rather good and doesn't feel as unwieldy as its propor- tions suggest. The steering is surprisingly sharp, bodyroll is well contained and it feels quite agile through cor- ners. But it also makes a good cruiser: the suspension, devel- oped in conjunction with sister company Mercedes-Benz, soaks up lumps and bumps in the road well.

The back seats are big, wide and very comfort- able with a huge amount of legroom (it has a longer wheel- base than the 2002 BMW 7-Series, but is shorter in overall length). It's remarkably quiet at speed, with wind and road noise kept to acceptable lev- els, although the diesel engine can sound a lit- tle vocal at high revs. The boot is huge, wide, deep and more than capable of swallowing a family's luggage. On the plus side there's plenty of stowage inside including a large glovebox and a num-

The 3.0 V6 CRD has cruise control, heated leather seats, leather steering wheel, auto- dimming rear-view mirror, trip computer, seat and mirror memo- ry, six-speaker sound system, 18-inch alloy

airbags and xenon headlamps. The facelift in February 2008 brought a fresh interior and upgraded equip- ment levels including a new satellite naviga- tion system, which includes UConnect (Bluetooth), cuphold- ers in the centre

wheel, leather sports seats, carbon fibre interior details and an upgraded Boston Acoustic Audio sys- tem.

console, a centre con- sole arm rest and dark grey leather interior. An SRT-Design trim was also introduced that includes 20-inch alloy wheels, chrome mesh grille, MyGIG touch- screen sat-nav and 20GB music hard drive system, SRT-8 steering

This cabin is the best that Chrysler has ever produced - it's simple, clear and comfortable to be in. This makes it an easy car to drive with well-placed con- trols and a comfortable driving position with the driver's seat having a number of adjust- ments. In 2008 the model was facelifted with the main focus being the cabin. The design was enhanced with a new instrument panel and centre con- sole design, highlighted with satin silver trim. Soft touch surfaces on the arm rests and door panels were added while new dark interior colours make it feel more sophisticated. A new ignition key with one- touch start-up, a fully adjustable steering wheel (including reach) as well as LED lighting in the front cup

holders and front and rear door pockets were all welcome improve- ments.

All models get elec- tronic stability programme (ESP), traction control, ABS and front and rear side airbags. Security-wise, there's an alarm and remote central locking. Facelifted cars come with seat-mounted airbags that were added to the front (and side-curtain airbags to the rear) for increased driver and passenger safety.

The good news is that the 300C is built in Austria, where quality standards are stricter than in America. It seems to have worked, as 300C feels well put together and we've not heard any reports of problems.
