Singapore snatched the coveted title of Best Business City in the World from Hong Kong this year – a result Melissa Ow, deputy chief executive, Singapore Tourism Board puts down to a number of factors: “Singapore’s concentration of business and leisure offerings makes it easy for time-scarce business travellers. Our safety, excellent infrastructure, efficiency, cleanliness and accessibility also contribute to a smooth business trip.” New technological improvements in 2017 will include a destination mobile application and smart kiosks at visitor touch-points.

Losing out on the world crown this year, Hong Kong nevertheless claimed the award for Best Business City in Northeast Asia. With advanced infrastructure, including Asia’s busiest business aviation hub and world-class event venues, the country is an ideal place for doing business. Exciting projects currently include the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge and the Guangzhou- Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link.

For the fourth year in a row, Grand Hyatt emerged as the winner of the Best Business Hotel Brand in the World award, while Hyatt Hotels as a group danced home with a total of nine individual awards. The Thai capital is a longstanding winner of the Best Leisure Destination in Asia-Pacific award. Yuthasak Supasorn, governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, said: “Bangkok meets the most important trend in the business travel world these days, which is the ability to perfectly balance business with leisure, or what is known as ‘bleisure’.
