CATHAY PACIFIC
Hot on the heels of its regional rival, Cathay Pacific (CX) scooped up three awards this year – including Best Premium Economy Class, previously won by British Airways, while hanging on to the awards for best lounge and best frequent flyer programme. Fleet changes this year saw CX bid farewell to its iconic Boeing 747 and welcome the A350, while new routes have included services to Gatwick and Madrid. Partnerships with restaurants and chefs,
plus the launch of premium “Fanfares”, have also enhanced the customer experience. “At Cathay Pacific, we want our customers to live a ‘Life Well
Travelled’. We believe travelling well is an intrinsic part of living well and we will keep on refining the Cathay Pacific experience for all travellers,” says Cathay Pacific director of sales and marketing Dane Cheng.
LUFTHANSA
BEST CHINA AIRLINE 1 Air China 2 China Eastern 3 China Southern
After completing a retrofit of all cabins, the German carrier has once again been voted Best European Airline. Malte Haut, general manager for Lufthansa Group Airlines Hong Kong, South China & Macau, highlights some reasons for the carrier’s continued popularity with readers: “The fact that we mainly offer night flights on our Asian routes especially suits the needs of business travellers. Fly Net, the internet service on board, allows our guests to work or keep in touch with their families while travelling. Furthermore, for our guests from Asia we have local crew members on board to support and serve them in their own language.” Next year will see the arrival of the A350-900, with enhanced business and premium economy cabins.
AIR CHINA
This year, Air China became the first Chinese airline to operate the B787-9 Dreamliner as part of its quest for fleet modernisation, enabling it to forge ahead with new international links. These have included routes to Sydney from both Chengdu and seasonally from Shanghai Pudong. The carrier also launched a new route to Dubai from Chongqing, complementing the existing link between Beijing and Dubai.
