Howard Gardiner (died 10/06/2018) An unusually tall wicketkeeper (1.96m), Howie Gardiner played 54 first-class matches and 11 List A games for Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) in the 1960s and ‘70s. Was an ICC Match Referee in one Test match (South Africa v Sri Lanka in 1997-98) and five ODIs.


Jack Bailey (died 14/07/2018) A seam bowler who played first-class cricket for Oxford University and Essex, he was Secretary of MCC from 1974-87, a tenure that covered the first three ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup tournaments. He also reported on the game for The Times of London.


Ajit Wadekar (died 15/08/2018) A left-handed batsman who played 37 Tests and two ODIs for India from 1966-74 but is best known for captaining the side to historic series victories in the Caribbean and England in 1971. He led India to a third successive series triumph over England at home in 1972-73. Wadekar later managed various Indian touring sides.


John Murray (died 25/07/2018) JT, as he was better known, was one of the game’s finest wicketkeepers who played 21 Tests for England from 1961-67. His 1,527 career dismissals, the majority for his county side Middlesex, put him second in the all-time first-class list behind compatriot, Bob Taylor.


Gopal Bose (died 26/08/2018) Bespectacled Bengal batsman who played a single ODI for India against England at The Oval in 1974 where he scored 13 and dismissed David Lloyd during his full quota of 11 overs.


Alan Oakman (died 06/09/2018) All-rounder who played two Tests for England against Australia in 1956. In the second of those, at Manchester, he took five catches close to the wicket as Jim Laker took 19 of the 20 wickets to fall.


Delwyn Costello (died 04/08/2018) An accurate right-arm medium-pace bowler who played one Test and seven ODIs for New Zealand Women in 1985.


James Reid (died 30/09/2018) Born in England, Jim Reid was a stalwart of cricket in the United States. He captained the USA to the Auty Cup in 1966 and was President of USACA from 1978-80.


Colin Guest (died 08/12/2018) Fast bowler whose international opportunities were limited by Ray Lindwall and Keith Miller. Played one Test, against England at Sydney, in 1962- 63, the same season in which he won the Sheffield Shield with Victoria.


Sharmeen Khan (died 13/12/2018) Along with her sister Shaiza, Sharmeen Khan was one of the pioneers of the women’s game in Pakistan. A right-arm opening bowler, she played two Tests and 26 ODIs from 1997-2002.


Bill Watson (died 29/12/2018) Australian opening batsman who earned Test selection in the final match of the 1954-55 Ashes series and went on to play three more Tests in the Caribbean.


Mithra Wettimuny (died 20/01/2019) A top-order right-handed batsman who played nine first-class matches of which two were Tests for Sri Lanka, against New Zealand in 1982-83. In the first of those, he opened the batting with his younger brother, Sidath.
