PREPARING FOR THE ICC CRICKET WORLD CUP 2019
With less than a year to go to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in England and Wales, the tournament is on course to be among the most successful to be held – with over one million watching on around the world.

Cricket Board have been honoured with the task of delivering the ICC Cricket World Cup and already we have passed many important on 14 July 2019.
Building on the outstanding success of the ICC Champions Trophy in England and Wales in 2013 and 2017 and the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017, Lord’s, we have been able to engage with new and traditional audiences in a very dynamic and rewarding way.
In the last few months we have seen the launch of the 48-match schedule, the mobilisation of the World Cup Cricketeers volunteer programme and the launch of the ticket ballot for the cricket family. All have been delivered with cross- departmental collaboration and in conjunction with the members and the ICC.
The schedule was announced on 26 April 2018 and led to a wave of encouraging comments both in the traditional media and on digital platforms.
At a local level, the input of the host venues - Cardiff Wales Stadium, County Ground Bristol, County Ground Taunton, Edgbaston, Hampshire Bowl, Headingley, Lord’s, Old Trafford, The Oval, The Riverside and Trent Bridge - sentiments particularly around the ticket prices and accessibility.
The key to ticket pricing was the affordability for young people and families so they will be able to experience – and build a lifetime relationship – with international cricket in England and Wales.
It was also aimed at encouraging the diverse community which makes England and Wales so unique and attractive when it comes to global events – every team playing in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 will have the potential of a home crowd.
The pricing structure, explained at a launch by ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 Managing Director Steve Elworthy and England limited overs captain Eoin Morgan was:
• 80,000+ tickets at £20
• 200,000+ tickets at £50 or less • Child tickets at every match, starting from £6 • Family of four for £52
The pricing came from a thorough consultation process with external experts during the last six months who stressed the importance of ensuring value for money compared to other global sporting events.
The success of this strategy has been seen following the launch of the Cricket Family ballot on May 8, 2018. The ‘Cricket family’ included those who were on the ECB database of county cricket members, previous ticket purchasers, fans, volunteers and associated partners of the ICC CWC19.
Over the course of the Cricket Family Ballot we received over 120,000 applications seeking upwards of one million tickets. The demand from the cricket loving community around the world was incredible. We had a target of 100,000 ticket applications across the 48 matches – this target was exceeded, which just shows how popular and in demand the tournament is.
