In 2017-2018, the ICC’s intelligence-led testing programme comprised 404 urine and blood anti-doping tests, administered across 30 teams which included men’s, women’s and U19 teams. Of the tests conducted, 60% were targeted out-of-competition, no advance notice testing, while the remaining were through random in- competition selections.
Tests were conducted at both bi-lateral and ICC events, including the ICC Champions Trophy 2017, ICC Women’s World Cup 2017, ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2018 and ICC World Cup
The ICC’s risk-based testing strategy is supported by its Athlete Biological Passport programme, whereabouts programme that facilitates out-of- competition testing; investigations into suspect
substances in cricket.
In the calendar year 2017, there were a total in both international and domestic cricket worldwide, a 15% increase in global testing from the previous year.
An effective education programme has always been an essential part of the ICC’s anti-doping strategy, to prevent and deter doping in cricket. Since late 2017, the ICC’s anti-doping department joined forces with the ICC’s anti-corruption unit to develop and deliver an interactive and engaging values-based integrity education programme. In addition to the collaborative education programme, a new ICC Integrity App was recently developed. The App is a fantastic support tool available to all cricket stakeholders and is helping build awareness and educate stakeholders in better protecting the spirit and integrity of the game.
