CHAIRMAN’S REPORT

SHASHANK MANOHAR

The last twelve months have seen continued improvement in the governance of the global game as the ICC Board builds on the foundations laid in the previous year to enable us to provide our sport with a real opportunity to grow.

OPPOSITE: ICC Chairman Shashank Manohar during the ICC Board Meetings in Kolkata in April 2018.

My vision has always been to ensure the sport  cricketing structures and whilst the focus last year was very much on the former, 2017-18 has been about the cricket. Back in October the Board agreed to introduce a nine-team World Test Championship and a 13-team ODI league aimed at bringing context and meaning to bilateral cricket.

I am very proud of the way our Members  the age-old challenge of giving all international  are part of a league that will crown the World Test Champions every two years, whilst in the ODI cricket, every game counts towards 

We also have two new Test playing nations as Afghanistan and Ireland were unanimously   all T20 games between Members as part of our commitment to grow the game using our shortest format as the vehicle through which to do so.

At the last Full Council meeting, Members voted unanimously for constitutional change and one element of that was the appointment of an independent female director. I’m delighted  PepsiCo to the ICC.

Adding another independent director – particularly a female – is such an important step forward in improving our governance. To have someone of Indra’s calibre is fantastic news for the global game – she is frequently recognized  today, running one of the world’s biggest corporations. Her term starts in June.

This year we have undertaken one of our most ambitious projects to date; the development of a global strategy for cricket. The Board appointed Strategy Working Group, led by David Peever, is working in partnership with Members to develop a long- term strategy that is owned and delivered by all in the game. The strategy, which will launch later in 2018, will unite us under a common vision and ensure the sport is aligned in its ambition for long-term sustainability for all Members.

Finally, I would like to thank the Directors who have sat on the ICC Board this year who gave me their support to continue as the ICC Independent Chairman for a further two years, as well as the committed ICC staff, led by David Richardson. I look forward to working with you all over the coming twelve months as we implement a long-term global strategy for the growth of our game.
