The next section of this report presents the definitions of SMD used in this study, before the methodology adopted by the research team is then briefly summarised (see Bramley et al (2019) for the full Technical Report4
). The main quantitative sections of the
report detail the scale, overlap and socio-demographic profile of SMD in Scotland, its relationship with poverty and deprivation, and its geographical distribution. We then move on to foreground the qualitative experiences of people with direct personal experience of SMD, and the perspectives of frontline practitioners at the sharp end of assisting people in this situation, before drawing some overall conclusions and flagging some ways forward in this field.
