DanceSyndrome a past Red Rose Awards winner, has celebrated ten years of supporting learning-disabled people through the power of dance. Sessions run from centres in Preston, Clitheroe, Accrington, Chorley and Wigan. In the last 12 months more than 5,500 people have been reached with workshops and performances taking place as far afield as Nottingham, Edinburgh and London. Founder Jen Blackwell, who has Down’s Syndrome, won the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services in 2019.
Preston-based design and fit-out company Coulter Office Interiors has completed a five- year, £142,000 redesign project at WEX Europe Services. The project saw the Crewe operation expand into a two-storey business centre totalling 14,700 sq ft and add 180 to its workforce.
Blackpool and the Fylde College has been ranked one of the country’s top-performing colleges for the sixth consecutive year. The latest National Achievement Rate Tables positioned B&FC fifth out of 172 general further education colleges, putting it in the top three per cent. Student satisfaction is consistently over 90 per cent, with 97 per cent of students progressing into employment or further study. In addition, B&FC received the highest possible gold rating in the government’s higher education Teaching Excellence Framework.
A Peaky Blinders-themed charity ball has raised £15,000 and counting for deprived countries around the world. The event was held by Burnley charity Furniture for Education Worldwide
at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel, Clayton-Le-Moors. Terry Burns, chairman of FEW, said: “We’ve sent containers filled with tables, chairs, computers, books, bookshelves and blackboards to The Gambia, Pakistan, Cambodia and Zanzibar. We have also been working hard to build on our ‘drone project’, used for the clearing of mines in Cambodia, which has already saved many lives.”

Lancashire Adult Learning (LAL) and HM Kirkham Prison have launched a partnership to better support prisoners as they prepare for life after their release. A launch event was held which allowed prisoners to learn about health, food and exercise, and LAL’s employability team provided advice and guidance on getting back into work once an individual’s sentence has been served.
