PRESSING THE RESET BUTTON

How everything has changed in the last two months since writing my column about ‘scaling versus growing’ is fairly surreal to say the least.

In early 2020, Lancashire County Council launched the new Two Zero brand, part of the council’s scale-up service. The ambitious brand had started to build profile and resonate in the minds of business owners and influencers. A number of pilot programmes had started and were due to complete in late summer of 2020.

Then came Covid-19 and lockdown!

A key goal of Two Zero has been helping businesses achieve 20 per cent growth year on year. As Lancashire businesses have tackled the effects of coronavirus in recent weeks, growth has been on the backburner for many. However, Two Zero’s brand ethos of achieving goals, strong foundations and scaling challenges remain very relevant.

Therein lies the question for those business scaling and on the cusp of doing great things this year who have had time to digest the situation, take immediate action to mitigate some element of risk, and who are now thinking ‘what’s next’?

In the coming weeks we will be launching a new set of programmes which will be subject-led rather than sector-led. Owners of businesses on a scaleup programme pre-Covid-19 may have hit the brakes. Their aspiration to grow may have even waned.

The programmes’ refocus will aim to offer an emotional connection to business owners facing current challenges with content including; Funding for the future, Transforming your infrastructure, Mind-set review - What have you learnt?, Changing routes - setting a new direction and Preparing for the next storm.

The time to reset and drive resurgence is upon us and Lancashire County Council through Two Zero and the Boost #AskForHelp campaign will lead the way.
