AWARD WINNER MATT ADDS TO THE ACCOLADES

After winning the coveted Lancashire Construction Apprenticeship award in 2022, Matt Winstone is yet again shining bright, showcasing the star quality of an apprenticeship in 2023.

Matt Winstone is a Blackburn College, Level 3 site carpentry and joinery apprentice, and not only was he a winner of the Lancashire Construction Apprenticeship award in 2022, but also the winner of his employer Star Award at Places for People.

Aged 19, Matt is achieving great things and enjoying the success of choosing an apprenticeship as a route to his future career.

His approach to his apprenticeship and decision to choose this route was clear. “I wanted to do something practical. The hands-on approach, I feel you learn quicker because you’re doing the work and it’s great to earn at the same time. I’m wanting to do a HNC in construction.”

Andrew Wheeler, home improvement supervisor at Places for People, said: “The

apprenticeship has allowed Matt to get to the stage, where once he would need a mentor and we would have to assist him, but now he is independent, and he’ll go and complete the job on his own.

“It’s great to see a young keen joiner, he’s keen to learn and do the job.”

Matt has excelled in his apprenticeship recently gaining a distinction in his Level 3 End Point Assessment, which is a great achievement alongside his winning award.

“Places for People have really supported me and helped me get through the course,” he said.

“I was really happy to win the employer star award at Places for People and I’m looking forward to progressing further in the company.”

The apprenticeship standard has been developed by employers to ensure the most relevant and up-to-date skill gaps are met within the modern construction industry.

If you are keen to recruit ambitious and potential future apprentice award winners, with the most up-to-date knowledge, then get in touch with us and see what an apprentice can do for your business.

APPRENTICESHIPS POWER THE FUTURE AT QUEST

QUEST Electrical is Burnley’s leading wholesale and industrial electrical contractor. Established in 1993, we are proud to have established many long-lasting relationships with major businesses across Lancashire and the UK, working as their preferred supplier.

We guarantee a quality and professional service, backed by a highly trained and accredited team who are committed to delivering industrial electrical installations to the highest standards.

At QUEST we believe that apprentices are our future and currently have apprentice account managers studying business administration level 3 qualification through Burnley College working within our wholesale team.

Recruitment for our wholesale division can be difficult, as people experienced in the industry tend to stay put!

This is why we chose to invest in training and developing the next generation of experienced account managers.

Over the past 12 months we have grown the number of electrical apprentices to 14 at

varying stages of their qualifications and based throughout the North West and Yorkshire.

Our youngest apprentice is 16 years old and our oldest is 31 years old.

Each apprentice is teamed with a qualified electrician to train and mentor them onsite whilst also attending college on day release or block to gain their level 3 in installing electrotechnical systems and equipment.

We work closely with both JTL and Burnley College to recruit and secure college places for our apprentices.

Our people are our greatest asset, and we are committed to offering a career to our team, along with the reward and recognition they deserve.

Professional and personal development is a key focus within the business and is personally lead by our managing director Andrew Wood, who established our in-house Professional Development Academy.

With a lot of hard work, determination and support apprentices can have a long, rewarding and successful career with QUEST.
