We brought providers and businesses from across Lancashire to Stonyhurst College in the Ribble


Valley to talk about apprenticeships and skills. Themes ranged from the importance of collaboration to the challenges of recruitment and retention in the county’s further education sector

There is a collegiate approach across Lancashire, and it’s not only the colleges. It is also the independent training providers and the universities working together to tackle skills challenges.


As the skills hub we work with employers across Lancashire. We look at labour market intelligence, we look at what our businesses need to help them flourish. We look at what skills we require to attract new businesses to Lancashire and work collectively with the providers. At any one time we’ve got over 10,000 apprentices across Lancashire.


We also need to talk about that collegiate approach in our business networks, because it’s also about communication. The Lancashire Skills Pledge recognises employers inspiring, recruiting and developing Lancashire’s people. Around 12 business networks have a partnership agreement with us to promote it.
