Padiham-based +24 has secured a


£270,000 grant from Innovate UK to further its work helping manufacturers to reap the rewards of smart technology. Combined with +24’s own funds, the total invested in the project will be almost half a million pounds.


A number of Lancashire-based individuals, including a college principal, a blockchain pioneer and an MP, have been named in the New Year’s Honours list.


Bev Robinson (pictured), principal and chief executive of Blackpool and The Fylde College, has been awarded a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE), for Services to Further Education.


Andrew Stephenson, who has represented Pendle as its MP since 2010, has received a CBE in recognition of his dedication to political and public service.


Blackpool-based Prof Dr Naseem Naqvi, who founded the British Blockchain Association in 2017, receives an MBE for services to blockchain and distributed ledger technologies.


London-based investment firm RDCP Group


has acquired a 75 per cent stake in precision engineer Pexion Group for £34m. The Chorley company was founded in 1986 and through a sustained buy-and-build process has created a diversified group of 16 subsidiaries. Total turnover for the group is £55m, with an EBITDA of £7m.


Skelmersdale-based Walker Engineering has begun the new year with 10 new projects worth more than £725,000 combined and is set to better its record turnover of £3.9m from the previous year.


Work to build a £100m, seven-story office building which will house 3,000 civil service workers in the centre of Blackpool is now underway. The 215,000 sq ft building is a key part of the resort’s £350m Talbot Gateway regeneration plan, which also includes a new 144-bedroom Holiday Inn hotel set to open later this year. Muse Developments and VINCI Building are undertaking the work in partnership with Blackpool Council. The council has also announced that it will extend the Illuminations until January 1, after a similar move last year yielded bumper footfall and visitor spend.

understand their energy use in greater detail.


Inglewhite-based Carron Lodge has acquired Longridge cheesemaker Singletons & Co after it entered into administration last August. The sale includes the trading premises as well as tangible assets and branding including the famous Grandma Singletons cheese. However, no jobs have been saved.


Haslingden-based Solomon Commercials


AIS Wind Energy, part of the Ainscough Industrial Services Group in Chorley, has taken delivery of a new Liebherr LG 1750 lattice boom mobile crane. The seven-figure investment enables the company to provide a turnkey approach to the construction of onshore wind turbine installation and carrying out decommissioning, service and repair works.

Skelmersdale-based Victorian Plumbing has agreed on a 20-year lease for a new, purpose- built distribution centre in Lancashire. The opening of the 544,000 sq ft site, scheduled for this autumn, will see the company consolidate a number of existing sites while retaining others to provide a foundation for future growth.
