The Plastic and Rubber Group manufactures, processes and supplies a range of plastic, insulation and rubber products to industries including food, pharmaceutical, quarrying, aerospace and recycling. The company operates sites in Lancashire and Manchester and during the year acquired Mountford Rubber and Plastics of Birmingham.
Mi-Flues, launched in 1996, manufactures and distributes flexible flue liners used in chimneys, fireplaces and stoves. The company’s three sites, in Blackpool, Thetford and Taunton, serve customers across the UK, while a sister company operates in the Republic of Ireland. Sales grew across the year from £19.4m to £25m.

Celerity, Preston Celerity provides a range of IT services, including data protection, data visualisation, cyber security and managed cloud services. The company was founded in 2002 and today employs a workforce of 53. During the year, the company secured a £15m investment from the Business Growth Fund to undertake an ambitious growth plan.
3 2022: 17 Holgates Holiday Parks, Carnforth
Holgates owns and operates eight holiday parks in Lancashire and Cumbria. The trading year began under Covid-19 lockdown restrictions, but trade soon returned to pre- pandemic levels thanks to a demand for UK staycations. Silverdale Holiday Park was named Campsite and Caravan Park of the Year for 2022 by the AA.

Landway Properties, Nelson Landway is a residential property developer which continues to complete projects across the North West. Over the year, total revenues remained relatively stable at £22.8m while pre- tax profit rose from £7.2m to £7.9m.

The Blackpool Pier Company, Blackpool
The group includes Blackpool’s South, Central and North piers, generating revenues through bars, amusement arcades, theatres and funfair rides, as well as rental income from concession holders. The company returned to profitability with the end of domestic Covid-19 restrictions and benefitted from ‘staycation’ spending, while the longer-term, global effects of the pandemic lingered.

Ryecourt, Fleetwood The main company in the Ryecourt group is Belsfield Care, which operates a portfolio of care homes located along the Fylde coast that enjoyed above 99 per cent occupancy across the year. The group also includes T&S Healthcare, which supplies products to the care and nursing home industry, and construction firm K&B Property.

Premier Steel Stockholding, Blackburn
Premier Steel is an independent stainless steel stockholder sourcing items from the UK and around the world. The company provides blanking, guillotine, bar sawing, polishing and plasma and laser cutting services, as well as operating its own fleet which delivers products to customers across the country. In a year of post-pandemic recovery, Premier Steel was able to double revenues, up from £17.5m to £35m.

Mullberry Homes, Blackburn Mullberry Homes develops and sells residential properties, completing 40 in 2021 and 55 in 2022. The increased volume, alongside increased prices, saw turnover grow from £18.3m to £20.7m. Mulberry continues to develop properties in Cumbria and Merseyside.
2022: 4 Associated Investments, Darwen
Associated Investments is the new name for Hot 100 regular Heatmiser, which manufactures a range of heating controls under its own brand and on behalf of other companies.
The company was founded in 1968 and has earned significant growth in recent years thanks to increasing public awareness of smart home devices, including those controlled by Alexa, Google Nest and Apple Home apps, which can be integrated with the company’s products.
Associated Investments operates its own manufacturing facility in China which has helped it bypass many of the common supply chain obstacles presented by the Covid-19 pandemic and which has helped maintain healthy international sales figures.
In total, revenues increased from £18.1m to £21m over the year. Following the filing of these accounts, the company was acquired by Birmingham-based specialist engineering company IMI plc in a deal worth an initial £110m and up to £8m more, dependent on future results.
