Because of Covid-19 lockdown restrictions, the company was unable to open to the public during the first four months of the trading year and opted to take no membership payments. However, visitor numbers did increase throughout the rest of the year with management confident of a return to pre-pandemic levels of revenue.

The companies produce chilled and frozen foods under brands such as Easy Eats, Heat Me Eat Me and Snacksters, all sold through grocery and convenience stores. The introduction of new lines helped improve turnover from £28.8m to £34.7m.

Smiths stocks a range of plant, equipment and DIY tools available for hire across the north of England. Revenues were boosted by the opening of three new locations, as well as increased occupancy of the rental units owned by the group. A training division delivers a range of programmes relating to machinery use and health and safety.
