NLTG APPRENTICESHIPS: MAKING YOUR SUCCESS OUR PRIORITY
THE BEST OF
BOTH WORLDS Sika is a specialty chemical company, operating in 93 countries worldwide.
It develops and produces state-of-the-art construction, industrial manufacturing, automotive and DIY products, with a focus on making the living environment more durable, reliable and sustainable.
Operations manager at Sika (Preston) is Lisa Baines, who has been working with NLTG on employee upskilling.
Remaining adaptable in the face of new business challenges is now more important than ever.
Lancashire’s continued prosperity depends upon a workforce that is future fit and there is no doubt that apprenticeships provide a driver for change.
Apprenticeships offer real opportunities to develop existing talent, address skills shortages and improve staff retention.
They can have a significant impact on productivity, creating a motivated, passionate and highly skilled workforce.
Thousands of industry leaders have started their careers with an apprenticeship, so for companies looking to expand and evolve, introducing and developing new talent via the recruitment of young apprentices can future proof business.
Progression planning and continuing professional development can also be supported through the upskilling of existing employees who already have experience in the organisation and the potential to go further.
The NLTG Offer
NLTG (North Lancs Training Group) has more than 50 years’ experience of delivering apprenticeships and training solutions to companies small and large.
Our high quality, flexible training is delivered on employer premises, and our partnership approach includes working with companies to jointly design programmes.
We offer ongoing expert support, advice and guidance; from choosing the right apprenticeship, to specialist funding advice via our dedicated Apprenticeship Service Engagement Team.
NLTG apprenticeships are available from Levels 2 to 5, in subjects including: Management, Team Leading, Customer Service, Furniture Occupations, Business Administration, Digital IT Support, Digital Marketing, Retail, Catering/Hospitality, General Manufacturing and Warehousing.
Our goal is to support more Lancashire businesses to take advantage of Apprenticeship opportunities and the funding available to develop training plans that deliver real business benefits.
NLTG offer:
• a partnership approach to programme design and delivery
• flexible on-site delivery (remote and face- to-face) tailored to business need
• funding advice and support • industry specialist tutors
• a free applicant matching service for companies looking to employ new apprentices
• outstanding Apprenticeship End Point Assessment pass rates (97 per cent in 2021-22)
The Benefits
Apprenticeships are for employees of all ages and are an effective way to develop a qualified workforce, adding to company productivity and success.
They are structured training programmes which deliver ‘job specific’ skills, allowing you to train employees in your company practices, developing the skills required to meet specific need, including soft skills such as problem solving, communication, leadership and adaptability.
Funding
Government funding is available to support small to medium sized companies with 95 per cent of apprenticeship training costs.
This is a huge opportunity to take advantage of subsidised training to invest in workforce development.
For levy paying companies, the effective use of funds can support continuing professional development and talent management.
Alternatively, unspent funds can be transferred to support workplace training in smaller businesses or supply chain partners.

Added Justin: “I’ve never really done anything like this before; there were a lot of challenges, so I think having a tutor I could get in touch with at every turn was really important.
“I’d recommend it to anybody. Although I found it challenging, ultimately, if you want to do it, and you want to pass, it takes commitment. As long as the tutors you have support you, then there’s no reason why anyone can’t do it.”
SPECIALISMS:
• Apprenticeships • Traineeships • Flexible on-site delivery • Ongoing advice, support and guidance
Says Lisa: “We wanted to see how apprenticeships could support employee development and benefit our business. Apprenticeships provide learners with workplace experience, as well as academic skills; you have the best of both worlds and that’s something we would like to develop.”
Justin Goodwin works in continuous improvement at Sika and was chosen to further develop his skills though an NLTG apprenticeship, which he successfully completed achieving a distinction.
