IMPROVING YOUR CASH FLOW IN THREE STEPS
As the cost of doing business continues to rise, taking swift action to ensure you have enough cash for your operations will be crucial for the majority of Lancashire businesses throughout 2023.
The first step is understanding your current cash flow position. It’s important to forecast what your outgoings are likely to be on a weekly basis so you know your immediate requirements. You will then be able to take appropriate action if necessary.
If your forecasts show upcoming cash flow issues, the first port of call should be speaking to your creditors and other parties who may be able to help.
Can you ask for some flexibility with your landlord? Can your bank provide any additional short-term assistance? Having an accurate cash flow forecast will allow you to approach these organisations in a much stronger position.
You should also prioritise ‘mission critical’ creditors, such as key suppliers, HMRC, lenders, your utilities provider, and communicate with these in the first instance.
Once you know your cash flow position and situation with key creditors, you can then explore options for additional finance. This could include leveraging unencumbered assets, which may be used to secure additional facilities.
You may also have an opportunity to refinance existing facilities to unlock more cash, for example re-mortgaging could help you to release equity from a business property to support your immediate cash flow needs.
If you need help understanding your cash flow or securing additional finance, Access to Finance has a team of experts based in Lancashire who can support you. Get in touch with our team below.
