the United Arab Emirates, with some lesser-known destinations enjoying more time in the spotlight, says Rob Gill


W


hen it comes to the United Arab Emirates, Dubai (ME300) may continue to enjoy the highest profile and host the


lion’s share of tourists, but its fellow emirates are now emerging as destinations in their own rights. While Abu Dhabi has been making its presence


felt as a global tourist destination for more than a decade (see p52), the likes of Ras Al Khaimah (ME500), Sharjah (ME400), Ajman (ME540) and Fujairah (ME501) all have their own ambitious plans to develop their tourism industries and are keen to spread the word at WTM London. Having said that, Dubai continues to dominate


tourism arrivals to the UAE as it bids to reach its goal of 20 million annual visitors in 2020 – the
