PAID CONTENT FOR THE HERMITAGE, AORAKI/MOUNT COOK

The Hermitage AORAKI/MOUNT COOK NATIONAL PARK, NEW ZEALAND

The Hermitage is an iconic New Zealand hotel with a rich history spanning over 130 years. Located in the heart of the South Island, the Hermitage is the only hotel in the national park and is a three-hour drive from Queenstown and a 3.5-hour drive from Christchurch, with international airports at both locations. The beauty of the national park is truly

outstanding and flourishes in distinct ways throughout the year. It’s home to all but one of New Zealand’s 20 highest mountains, with Aoraki/Mount Cook towering above all at 12,218 feet, and serving as the beating heart of the Southern Alps. Glaciers cover much of the park, with New Zealand’s longest, the Tasman Glacier, measuring an incredible 14.6 miles. The night sky in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park is like nowhere else on the planet, as it’s home to the world’s largest gold tier dark sky reserve. This means light pollution in the park is minimal, so visitors can soak up the magic of the starry night sky without any interference.

Aoraki/Mount Cook is a magnet for those

wanting to pay tribute to legendary Kiwi mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary. Hillary climbed Aoraki/Mount Cook in 1948, five years before he and Tenzing Norgay became the first known people to summit Mount Everest. The hotel is perfectly positioned for views

of Aoraki/Mount Cook and the magical surrounding landscape. The hotel is warm, welcoming and offers various room types to accommodate guests, all featuring incredible mountain views. The Hermitage also has a collection of excellent

dining establishments, which cater for a range of dietary requirements. In addition to the hiking trails in the

national park, the Hermitage offers a range of exciting activities. Explore the Tasman Glacial Lake, while weaving between icebergs by boat as you learn about the ever-changing glacial landscape. Or discover the night sky on a stargazing tour with one of the hotel’s resident astronomers.

Don’t miss The Glacier Explorers boat tour is one of the best ways to discover the stunning landscapes and natural beauty of the region
